Certainly hope you are right, but that's a pretty big tag to hang on a group at this point?? Just in recent history, the Mustangs had a couple of fairly decent classes in 2005 and 2007 that both had some success. I'd say the target may be the '07 bunch which finished 24-2 against a very difficult schedule that included the likes of Scott County (1 point loss in the finals of the LexCath tourney & this team won the Sweet 16 as seniors), Mason County, CovCath, Holmes, LexCath, Clark Co., Pendleton Co, Cincy Elder, etc. They became the 1st team in school history to win the 10th region frosh title, go undefeated 23-0 as JV sophs, and went on to set several school records as seniors, winning the All "A" state title and finished the season ranked #1 in both NKY polls. Hope you're correct!!

I know many of you may not remember them, but the Long brothers from Lloyd in the 60's were awfully good "all around" athletes, excelling in several sports. I believe Geoff played baseball professionally?

Mustangs will miss their departed seniors, but who won't? I expect Brossart to go as far as their emerging "bigs" will take them. They are very solid and experienced at the guard position, but can go significantly forward as a team if their big men progress as hoped. Like many in the 37th, they've got several question marks; but if they can get some productive inside play to go with their guard depth they can be pretty good. They could be very deep if some of the younger guys develop as the season goes on; and I would expect them to be much better as the season progresses. Interesting year in the 37th.

Not sure where this repeated story of yours is coming from, but I counted all 4 seniors back (although one is currently injured from football), while they did lose a few juniors for various reasons (not surprising when you had 9 sophomores playing last year) but if memory is correct I think 5-6 are back, and I think the one freshman that played varsity last year is joined by 3 other sophs? I hear a couple of freshmen may see some JV-Varsity action as well. I'm sure Mustang can be more accurate, but I think the rumored demise of BB's numbers may be overstated.

And if I recall correctly, none of these teams ended up #1 in the final NKY Poll?

Not much of a fan of comparison scores, but when they are 61-0 and 0-61 (both vs. Eminence) then I take note. WV in a "name the score" type game.

Best of luck to both teams, and most of all--No injuries!! Don't like this scheduling for either team, especially Brossart as nothing to be gained for either, and a key injury could be damaging in the postseason?? Play this early in the season---Just my opinion.

Pretty good assessment of the situation Rhino. The extra display of emotion by the BB head man near the end of the game was due, in my opinion, to an outrageously late hit very far out of bounds by a Dayton player, in which the officials just sat on their flags?? The kid was 10-12 feet out of bounds when first hit, and then wrapped up and thrown towards a concrete wall. While I hate ticky-tac flags in a blow-out game, this was a situation that called for a flag if not an ejection, as its never OK to cheap shot kids and BB has a playoff game to prepare for. Curious if Mr Cee saw that event, or if he's commenting from the internet with his usual anti-Brossart rhetoric?? While I agree that you win with class and lose with class, I can't say I saw much to complain about in the BB strategy once they had the game in hand? Can't comment on any trash talking, etc., but if you expect to build a winning program, you can't allow your kids to be drawn into reacting to this type tactic--Just let your play do the talking. All in all--Much to do about nothing IMO. Simply a BB hater trying to start something where nothing exists. Regarding the move to 2-A, I think this will be proven to be yet another ill-conceived KHSAA move; as BB is clearly a single A sized school in a 6 class system at this point. This may prove to be yet another setback in the development of this young program, especially with the implications in trying to retain their own feeder school kids; but I'm confident they will survive and ultimately prosper as they've done in all their sports!! Anything to the earlier rumors that 3-4 1-A teams may not even field teams next year? This would appear to make a sham of the small school division if true??

I'm not sure what game you saw, but Beechwood did exactly what you suggested for most of the game?? They used several running backs and QB's, along with liberal substitutions at all positions. Vocke never saw the field that I remember in the second half, and BW tried several different wrinkles including a halfback pass, and passing all 3 downs at one point in the first half. The Tigers used this game (and I'm sure the last few) to work on some things that they will need down the road come playoff time. They could have easily pounded Vocke all night long and had him gain 400 yards, but they wisely worked with other kids; plus they have way too much class as a program to run the score up to pad some kid's stats!!

WV will win easily vs. Ludlow, and BW vs. BV will be a blowout----WV has earned the 2 seed!!

No doubt would have been a crowded schedule, but isn't that what a "productive & cost effective facility" should be?? JV & Frosh along with Red Devils already schedule around Varsity teams, and multiple soccer venues are available if needed. I've always loved CovCath's Saturday afternoon home games, and it might have been cool to see BB follow that path; but with only 5-6 home games a year for Friday's, it couldn't be too tough to figure out??

My understanding was this could have been a done deal a few years ago with a large chunk of $$'s coming from the NFL through one of their charitable funds that helps fund "community projects", especially ones that benefit multiple teams/schools in an given area. The lack of cooperation from the CC administration mentioned above killed that deal and the funds went elsewhere. That one's a real shame as a combination of the NFL grant and some seed money & resources from the various involved entities, could have renovated the stadium and installed the turf field which would have benefitted the entire community!! Since we are where we are in good old A-Town, I do think a new stadium would be great for CC out in Claryville SOME DAY; but can't imagine that given the current economic climate that spending taxpayer $$'s on this would be very popular. But I must say nothing the CC admin does would surprise me?? If true, a good choice building new elementary schools vs. a new stadium. They've certainly got the land when they decide to proceed, and could either locate where the current soccer field is, or elsewhere.

After the responses I got for forgetting BC as a potential contender in a Highlands thread, I'll say Boyle by about 150 ????

Glad I could give you your daily chuckle?? While many on here are trying to turn this into a "No love for Boyle County" thread, or bulletin board material for BC; I had no intention of anything like that when I started this topic. Again, not a Highlands fan, but rather a competitor in all sports but football; but simply looked at the realignments and thought how few contenders actually exist in most classes, especially this one (Same could be said for 1-A, 6-A). Most of all I'm a huge believer that 6 classes for 200+ schools is absurd, and 0-10 teams making the playoffs is ever sillier; but that's for another thread. Best of luck to Boyle (since I omitted them in my original comments) and the rest of this class next year; but to the BCHS fans calling loudly for Highlands--Be careful what you ask for!!
