Beechwood is obviously light years the class of Northern Kentucky Class 1-A, dominating in every aspect of the game tonight.

 

Beechwood's Vocke with 6 unmolested carries, 168 yards, and 4 touchdowns - all in the first half. Brossart had no answer tonight.

Colosimo also passed for a 30 yard TD to Dane Everett for the Tiger's first TD and ran for a TD himself. Max Nussbaum was responsible for the other Beechwood TD on a 10 yard run. Vocke has 18 touchdowns on the season, more touchdowns than times he has been tackled - pretty impressive. I was amazed at how unthreatened he was, has incredible lateral juke movement, creating lots of whiffs for the Mustangs front line.

 

Very impressed with the kicking game of #27 Joey Nussbaum who tacked on all 7 PATs and kicked off consistently to the end zone on each of his numberous kick-offs.

 

The Beechwood 2s played the entire second half under a running clock.

Mustang junior lineman 6'1" 255lb Brian Wechbach tried his hand at fullback tonight in the second half and did a creditable job.

 

Brossart added substantially to our injury list tonight, and will have to patch up and get ready for Dayton next Friday night.

Looks like the Stangs flunked out on their mid-term, I quoted 40 plus they would lose. Next week the green team will win.

I think you need to check the stats of this district over the years vs. the district they play in playoffs. I shouldn't even be qualifying your statement by responding.

For many years, this was the toughest 1A district in the state. Just a down year for a couple of the river city schools and two relatively new programs rounding out the district. Beechwood plays Dixe and CovCath which are strong 4A schools year in and year out, NewCath which is the best 2A team in the state and Highlands as their non-conference schedule. Does your team play a non-district schedule like this????

So combined in this game and the WV game Vocke had 14 carries/443 yards/9 TDs. 9 TDs in 14 carries?

Agreed. This district doesn't look as good this year because Bellevue is down for the first time in about six years. Dayton and Ludlow seem to have slipped the last couple of years, but Brossart and Walton are both making big strides toward at least the middle of the 1A pack. It might be weak this year, but typically it is among the best in 1A.

When was beechwood NOT this good in district play? I mean in all reality? They've had their hiccups over the years but what era were they not dominating this district? 70's maybe? I don't know, I'm asking.

Your district is down from years past. But Beechwood is still one of the best 1A teams!! A top four team IMO.

seriously, you can't pick your district. I think the tigers would rather not have to play 5 district games with very little competition.

Beechwood has to play those teams. It's against their non district schedule that you can make your assumptions. Beechwood has a quality program and to think other wise is ludicris.

Mustangs keep your head's up, and don't get discouaged. It was obvious that you guys did not have a good game last night, but if you think about it, most of the big yard plays come off Cameron Vocke. Vocke was able to do this from all of the missed tackles. I am not taking anything away from Vocke, he is the best in No. Ky. when it comes to cut's, and juke's, and his break-away speed.

 

However, he is not the only weapon, the Tigers have a strong backfield. The other kids may not be able to break open a 70 yard run, but they are able to get yardage. I do not know why the coaches do not use this option more, especially in the easier, in district games.

 

Also, do not be afraid of having to move up to Class 2A next year. The only real difference will be New Cath replacing Beechwood for the really tough game, and a big challenge from Holy X.

I understand what you are saying. Why do teams, not just Beechwood, put all their eggs in one basket? Why don't teams prepare for the "what if"? If that RB goes down, what kind of impact does that have on the psyche of the team (coaches & players)? If it does happen, how long does it take for the team to recover? "What if" that happens in a playoff game and the team does not recover? If you look at most high school teams it's the same way. Is it just padding stats for one RB? What is the benefit to the team? How does it prepare them for the playoffs? Does it make it easier for the opponents in the playoffs to prepare to stop that one feature back or would it be more difficult to prepare to stop 3 or 4 backs? Maybe it's just not showing anymore than you have to show to the future opponents but it seems to quench the spirit and the passion of the backs that aren't the feature RB. It's nice to have a talented feature RB but you have to have balance, in the air and on the ground, and you have to those hard nosed backs that can move the chains in this game of inches.

I'm not sure what game you saw, but Beechwood did exactly what you suggested for most of the game?? They used several running backs and QB's, along with liberal substitutions at all positions. Vocke never saw the field that I remember in the second half, and BW tried several different wrinkles including a halfback pass, and passing all 3 downs at one point in the first half. The Tigers used this game (and I'm sure the last few) to work on some things that they will need down the road come playoff time. They could have easily pounded Vocke all night long and had him gain 400 yards, but they wisely worked with other kids; plus they have way too much class as a program to run the score up to pad some kid's stats!!
