  1. He actually started an Indian School on or close to the property that the new HS will be build on!
  2. Former US Vice President Richard M Johnson and his family had deep roots in Scott County and is a very valid suggestion for the new high school name!
  3. Until 1975 it was a separate school system. In 1975 the high schools and the different school districts consolidated. Most all agreed that a new high school is needed in the near future. Arguments from community and coach's center around the phasing in process and lack of adequate athletic facilities in phase 1. Looks like it's going to be a separate but unequal problem. The current high school doesn't even have (better word would be own) a field that can host varsity games!
  4. My top 3 1. Elkhorn Creek High School (Bass or Crawdads) 2. Elijah Craig High School (Keg)...will never fly 3. Great Crossing High School (Apes) former elementary school/grade school that is now central office located across the street.
  5. Another interested component will be that the new school will be a 2A school in phase 1, from my calculations this will not effect SCHS being 6A. But when phase 2 comes in approx. 2018 it could make both SCHS and the new high school around 4A/5A teams which will definitely change the landscape a bit.
  6. Correct Garth was one of the many Grade Schools in SC. When all the Grade Schools consolidated Oxford, Sadieville, Great Crossing, Ed Davis, Garth, etc, two high schools were built, some kids went to SCHS and some kids went to GHS. Most of Garth's kids were districted to Georgetown High School. The former Garth High School is the current Garth Elementary School. The former Georgetown High School is the Current Georgetown Middle School.
  7. Garth and Georgetown High School were two separate schools. In fact Garth was one of the schools that consolidated to form Georgetown High School.
  8. High School will be located by Western Elementary School off of 460. In the city limits but about 3-4 miles from downtown.
  9. Scott County will soon be getting a new stand alone school. This school will start as a 750 student high school with the possibility to be a 1500 student high school when phase 2 is complete. The SC Board of Education left it up to the students and community to come up with possible names for the new school....please enjoy some of the suggestions below! Georgetown News-Graphic They asked you for suggested names and mascots for the new, second high school, Scott County, and you answered. Boy, did you answer. Suggestions range from the sublime to the silly, from the historical to the hysterical. There’s “Dodge Ram High School,” (Not encouraging much volunteer support from our local major manufacturer, that one. But it is offset by “Camry High School.”) In all, more than 150 suggestions were submitted to the Scott County Board of Education, whose members are pondering the choice. Here are a few of the offerings. How about “Mockingjay High School?” Although “The Hunger Games” fad may be ending soon. And, for University of Kentucky fans who have had to endure white and red and “Cardinals” for two decades, there are separate suggestions: “Kentucky Wildcat High School” and “Wildcat High School.” Take that, Rick Pitino. Some folks suggested immodest monikers: “Right Choice High School.” “The Best High School Ever.” “Trend Setter High School.” “Ultra Modern High School.” Hungry? Maybe you should attend “Peanut Butter and Jelly High.” Optimistic? The school could be“Where Wishes Come True.” There were a few suggestions to honor local and state figures: “Everette Varney High School,” “George Lusby High School,” “Ed Davis High School,” “Wendell Ford High School,” “Addison Mitchell McConnell High School,” “Martha Layne Collins High School.” And mascots. Cats or Killer Bees? Maybe Moonshiners, or Pride. And then there was a suggestion that’s steeped in local history: “Elijah Craig High School.” Not sure what the mascot would be for that. A tippler, perhaps? The complete list of suggested names and mascots follows: ADENA HIGH SCHOOL ADENA SPRINGS AICHI HIGH SCHOOL OR SEISHO HIGH SCHOOL ASSEMBLY HIGH SCHOOL AVALON HIGH SCHOOL BETTY GRAVES HIGH SCHOOL BIG EAGLE BLUEGRASS HIGH SCHOOL BLUEGRASS STATE HIGH SCHOOL BLUE SPRING HIGH SCHOOL BLOOMING FLOWERS HIGH SCHOOL BRIGHT HORIZONS HIGH SCHOOL BRILLANT MODEL HIGH SCHOOL BUFFALO CROSSING HIGH SCHOOL BUFFALO SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL BULL COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL CAMRY HIGH SCHOOL CANE RUN HIGH SCHOOL CANTRILL HIGH SCHOOL OR JC CANTRILL HIGH SCHOOL OR JCC HIGH SCHOOL CARDINAL HIGH SCHOOL CATS CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL CHOCTAW COMMONWEALTH HIGH SCHOOL COMPASS ROSE HIGH SCHOOL CREEK STONE CREEKVIEW HIGH SCHOOL CRIAG LEBANON HIGH CROSSING HIGH SCHOOL CROSSING PARK HIGH SCHOOL DALTON ACADEMY DANIEL BOONE HIGH SCHOOL DODGE RAM HIGH SCHOOL DOLLIN HIGH SCHOOL EAGLES HIGH SCHOOL EASTERN KY HIGH SCHOOL ED DAVIS HIGH SCHOOL ELFORK HIGH SCHOOL ELIGANT HIGH SCHOOL ELIJAH CRAIG HIGH SCHOOL ELKHORN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL ELKHORN CREEK HIGH SCHOOL ELKHORN CROSSINGS HIGH SCHOOL ELKHORN HEIGHTS ELKHORN HIGH SCHOOL ELKHORN TRACE HIGH SCHOOL EUBIE BLAKE HIGH SCHOOL EVERETT VARNEY HIGH SCHOOL FALLEN TIMBERS FEARLESS HIGH SCHOOL FIELDING BRADFORD HIGH SCHOOL FIJI HIGH SCHOOL FINCASTLE HIGH SCHOOL FINLEY WILLIAM ELLISON HIGH SCHOOL FOUNTAIN OF KNOWLEDGE HIGH SCHOOL FUTURE POINT HIGH GENERAL CHARLES SCOTT HIGH SCHOOL GEO-SCOTT HIGH GEORGE LUSBY HIGH SCHOOL GEORGE WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL GEORGE-SCOTT HIGH SCHOOL GEORGETOWN ACADEMY GEORGETOWN CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL GEORGETOWN CROSSING GEORGETOWN GREENWAVE GEORGETOWN HIGH SCHOOL GEORGETOWN SR HIGH SCHOOL GEORGETOWN PREP GREAT CROSSING HIGH SCHOOL GREAT CROSSINGS ACADEMY HIGH GREAT ELKHORN CROSSING HALLOW-HOLLOW HIGH SCHOOL HILL HIGH SCHOOL HILLTOP HIGH SCHOOL INDIAN CROSSING HIGH SCHOOL INDIAN SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL JAMES F ROBINSON HIGH SCHOOL JOHN ADAMS HIGH SCHOOL JOHN CRIGLER HIGH SCHOOL JOHN PAYNE HIGH SCHOOL JOHNSONS STATION HIGH SCHOOL J.R. 10. Isn't it mandatory for all KHSAA Member Schools to follow NFHS Rules?
  11. I was told a year or so ago he lived alone in Somerset.
  12. No. 2 on permitted scenarios could make the pickup games Walter setup as illegal. Walter, not the players, set it up and Walter could be considered an event organizer. I think it's stupid, but that's way I would read it.
  13. Common thread ... Parents didn't move. Although Haddix was not Ineligible until Scott County senior year but that was because he played 4 years already after finishing 8th grade. Repeat of 8th grade was ruled first high school years. That's why no move transfers can occur before 8th grade. The Scott county kid you may have been thinking about is Tanner Shotwe from Lexington Christian to Scotf County. His family never moved. If you move with your parents you will be ruled eligible.
  14. I forgot about Wise. If memory serves me he won 21 at Frankfort a couple years ago and then a bunch of games at Montgomery. Sure Coach Brown will depend a lot of both Wise and Weigel as they try to replace Cunningham and Grundy this year.
  15. The freshman coach at Henry Clay (I think his name is Robert Weigle) and Dunbar assistant Johnathan Moore are two of the best in Lexington.
  16. Then they should withdraw from the KHSAA and play a prep schedule. Nobody would complain then.
  17. Spindoc ... I like that thought. I am in favor of either sit out a year or be eligible right away ... One or the other. But 1 free transfer is not bad either. It would definitely eliminate a Cunningham situation of 3 different high schools. So is his older brother Trey going to be a part of Rhodes coaching staff?
  18. Once you complete 8th grade, you have 4 years of eligibility so he couldn't come back to play.
  19. I didn't hear any noise about this. Did this team come to fruition? If so, how did you do?
  20. PG - Mackey SG - Walls SF - Manning PF - Jackson C - Phares Scott County has had better players, but if I was putting together a "team" I would take this one. Put these guys in Hicks' run-and-jump and it would be fun to watch.
  21. Central KY Warriors (with Green Grundy Cunningham etc) finished 2nd and 3rd in back to back years in 8u (I believe it was the first ever championship at that age group) and 9u division 1. Not sure which year they finished higher but had a nice 2 year run. Georgetown Thunder (made up of kids that just graduated hogh school) was runner up in D2 nationals as a 10u team.
