KY AAU Teams 2013

Featured Replies

Now that the high school season is over the AAU season begins soon. Post teams and rosters in this thread. I'm looking forward to the summer. I can't wait to see who the dominant teams will be.

I saw where the Louisville Magic is now affiliated with Under Armor. Will this keep them out of the Adidas Invitational in Indianapolis?

Not sure what their rules are. I was up there two years ago and I recall a few Nike teams in it.

Heard Under Armor gave Ellis Myles $100,000 to fund Louisville Magic.

Seems risky. I can't say I have seen many kids clamoring to wear Under Armor shoes. Who is the NBA pitch guy for Under Armor? Luckily the success of Louisville Magic draws in top talent since their equipment won't.

Side note/question:

Is this how AAU guys make their money? Convince a shoe company to fund them?

I was wondering. I remember that some teams also chose not to participate because they were Nike teams.

Yes.

Yes.

Makes me wonder how much it costs to fund a team like the Louisville Magic that travels across the country playing in prestigious tournaments all summer long. Also makes me wonder how much the average cost is to be a part of the Louisville Magic.

NCAA Certified events registration fees range anywhere from $600-$1000. Travel fees for tournaments (Airfaire) at least $400 per player, and rooms $100 per night, and meals. I would say for the Louisville Magic to fly to Vegas and play I would estimate $7000-$10,000 based on 10 players and 6 rooms for 5 nights. Most teams that are funded like EBYL nike teams dont charge the kids. So If Louisville Magic play in the 5 NCAA Certified events that would be around $50,000-$60,000. Would also have to cover gear, leaving a coach with $40,000 if his budget is $100,000.

$600 registration

$4,000 Airfaire

$3,000 Rooms (6 rooms for 5 days)

$1,000 meals

Total= $8,600

Just an estimate. Have no way of knowing if this is how its done.

What does Ellis Myles do for a living?

No clue. Didn't he coach(head or assistant) at one of the Louisville high schools before taking on the Magic?

At one time he was. However, I believe he got into trouble at a Football game at J-Town where he threatened an official. I believe he had a son playing.

He is pretty intense.

Can't speak to the larger AAU question, but Under Armour's biggest NBA "shoe rep" right now is Brandon Jennings. I believe Kemba Walker might also have his name on some Under Armour kicks, but I'm not sure.

Brandon and Kemba, huh? Not bad. Easily recognizable. Not superstars. Could be worse I guess.
