NCAA Certified events registration fees range anywhere from $600-$1000. Travel fees for tournaments (Airfaire) at least $400 per player, and rooms $100 per night, and meals. I would say for the Louisville Magic to fly to Vegas and play I would estimate $7000-$10,000 based on 10 players and 6 rooms for 5 nights. Most teams that are funded like EBYL nike teams dont charge the kids. So If Louisville Magic play in the 5 NCAA Certified events that would be around $50,000-$60,000. Would also have to cover gear, leaving a coach with $40,000 if his budget is $100,000.

I imagine that their coach, being on the payroll of the company, wields considerable influence and tries to steer them to his company's schools. If the kids do a lot of traveling including staying at nice hotels, eating nice meals, etc., how is that not considered some type of remuneration for their playing for the "company's team"? What is the explanation as to why is their "amateur status" is not at risk?

All good Questions. Anyone can start an AAU team and get certified as long as you meet qualifications. Raising the money is the issue. Most players get invited to AAU teams and some tryout. The higher a player is ranked the better the team he will get invited to play on. I have been told that to be EBYL status for Nike you have to have certain players on the team. I would say there are more teams that don't have a lot of sponsorship then there are with. Just because a team has Spiece in front of it doesn't guarantee sponsorship. I'm not in the know but I don't think its a violation to play for sponsored teams that are NCAA certified. What would be a possible violation is if players are receiving cash.

The 17U Travellers team will play in the Nike EYBL with the following kids (that I know of):

 

Brandon Hatton- Dixie Heights

James Bolden- Holmes

Cameron Justice- Knott County Central

Justin Johnson- Perry Co Central

Zach McCormick- Turpin, OH

And I believe the rest of their roster will consist of a 6'7 kid out of TN and another Ohio player which gives them the maximum 3 out of state players to round out the roster.

 

Drew McDonald of Newcath will play for teh 16U Travellers team.

Now that the high school season is over the AAU season begins soon. Post teams and rosters in this thread. I'm looking forward to the summer. I can't wait to see who the dominant teams will be.

 

Hoop Dreams has several grade levels, including 15U, 16U & 17U. I only know the roster for the 15U team. Also, I know that they are ranked 13th nationally for their age group in Division 1. Here are the players:
