Casey County recently fired Coach Darrell Burkett. I'm hearing through the grapevine that Team Manimal coach Maze Stallworth is in the running for this position. I had the opportunity to see Team Manimal at the KY AAU State Tournament this past weekend and I came away very impressed with how they played as a team. They didn't quit despite what the scoreboard said and they played heady basketball. I'm not sure who else is in the running for the Casey County position but I do hope they take a good look at bringing in Maze Stallworth. He can do a lot of good in Casey County for a lot of reasons. Getting Casey County back to respectable is something I think he can do and with some of the talent coming up it'd be interesting to see how competitive Casey County could be under his leadership.

 

Does anyone know of anyone else who has put in for the job? I'm not trying to slight Casey County at all but if there is someone better than Maze Stallworth who put in for Casey County I'd like to know who they are. I can't imagine many people putting in for this job.

I'm not sure. When I was told he was being considered for the job I assumed that he has his certificate or he'll have it soon enough.

It was a really poor decision to fire Coach Burkett. He inherited a 6-22 team that graduated 5 seniors, won 4 games his first year but made the regional tournament, and then improved to 14-17 in year two. Small town politics at its finest.

 

I do agree with this as well. They were still pretty young this year and I believe they have some talented freshmen coming in next year as well.

 

That being said, this is a good opportunity for Maze to lay the groundwork of his head coaching career.

I just wanted to add that Maze played at Morehead State and in the NBA D-league. He was a graduate assistant under Donnie Tyndall at Morehead State and his style of defense, etc. is very similar to D.T. I think fans of Team Manimal can agree that he gets it done.

I wouldn't go that far. He had players that were known thru out the state. I was very impressed with him as a coach and his team. They played together and really seemed like a family. Hard to imagine that team was only put together a few months ago. Very impressive. But why would he leave SC for a job like Casey County

Maze's players were put together on March 25 and none of them were really known at all. Tyler Sharpe had a few mentions but that's about it.

 

Quite frankly, what he's done with Team Manimal has been stunning.
