Anyone going to this game?

Haywood is a great one, and is an advantage they have on most teams. :thumb: I will say this however, if Belfry prepares for West the way they did 2 or 3 years ago I don't see how they will win. Some Belfry fans I talked to during that game said they did not gameplan alot for WC and only prepared for Russell and to be honest it showed. The game was alot closer than it should have been. This is a better WC team, and it seems like not as good of a Belfry team (though they are still really, really good no doubt). Belfry is no doubt the favorite, but if they do not take WC seriously they will be in some trouble.

My questions about Belfry are: -How big are they? -What kind of skill players do they have? WC is small, but they gang tackle on defense and make big plays when they have the ball, Danny Cline is extremely dangerous if he gets to the 2nd level. A big team that could wear them down defensively, and still have the speed to make them drive the field offensively would be their worst possible matchup IMO. What does Belfry have?

Maybe GC fans didn't expect Rowan and Lawrence to be as good as they are this season? It was a pretty tough district at the top. There is no shame in coming in 3rd in that district I don't think.

Tell him to go to Oregon. I don't want the Canes or Cats to have to play against him , I'd like to see him do well and be able to cheer for him.

Also PP, alot of UF fans think he's a lock to go there if they really want him. Have you ever got that impression or is that Gators being Gators?

Miami didn't offer him I don't think. They like to stay in state for LBs under Shannon. Too bad, he could get alot of early PT there. Not that he'd probably go to the U anyway if offered. And he looks like a FSU LB to me. I guess they've just loaded up so much at the position in the last few years they aren't going after as many as usual.

Still if winning and making the NFL are more important to a player than early playing time, UK isn't the way to go. It sucks to say that, but I think it's the truth. Why turn down a program like Florida or Oregon to stay at UK? It would be like a basketball player in Mississippi staying at home to go to Ole Miss when he was heavily recruited by UK, Duke and North Carolina.

USC would normally be the way to go as they produce way more NFL starting LBs than the other 3, probably combined. Purple, send the man down to the U, where real LBs are bred to be winners . Barrow, Lewis, Morgan, Williams, Vilma, Armstead......Dawson would have been a nice fit there.

The Cats Pause for the 16th is always a little off. I remember when I was in school I was listed as a sophomore when I was a JR. Not a big deal, but the NEKY area could really use some more research for their sections.

Ok let me get this straight: The benefit of this rule is that you get a FG attempt that is set up as a kickoff like kick, meaning that the defense cannot block it? You should also be able to get more distance on it as well with this style of kick. But, it's not "free" in the sense that if you don't make it you keep the ball, or you keep the ball even if you make it?

Seems like Lewis always plays their best game of the season against West. That said I don't know if it will be enough, unless WC puts the ball on the ground. Cline, Bond and Co. should have a big day and guarantee WC their first winning season in over 20 years.

I'm sure some are disappointed, but I like that Russell is staying in the district. On most years Russell is a pretty good test for those teams, and their program gives the less prestigious programs in the district something to shoot for. Simply making the playoffs is a hollow goal to me, once a team has done it a few times. Teams like West, East, and Lewis need to be challenged so their programs can get better and better I think. That district without Russell just would not be the same.

I just looked up "Class" in the dictionary, and I saw a picture of Ivan McGlone :thumb:. Some of those Russell teams could have scored 150 points on some teams over the years, but he always shows respect to his opponents. So now we're worried about a bunch of 16 and 17 year old kids running their mouths because they had some success in a game? Wow....... :thumb: I will say that if the game gets out of hand too far, I think a team should make sure everyone has gotten in if it's safe to do. Many times when a game is that lopsided, the bench guys hold their own against the other teams varsity. So what if the opponent scores, you won the game by a large margin?

I hope so. I think it's extra classy when a coach shows good sportsmanship to a coach that has displayed none. Kind of helps put things in perspective.

High School sports (or any sport for that matter) isn't suppose to be like this. I hate to hear this stuff about JC, especially for the Jude kid because it's not his fault the game played out as it did. What a shame. Can't the administration do something about this, or is the W/L column the only thing that matters there?

This has been an interesting thread to say the least. I have respect for both teams, I hope it is a good clean game. Just the way a rivalry should be.

The homegrown thing is sounds really weak IMO. Why not worry about your own team?

My goodness are students and families not allowed to move? If a school offers a better education, band program, football or basketball team, social atmosphere, etc. who are we to judge?

My suggestion would be to get him in a bunch of good camps this summer. If he doesn't have attention from the really big schools by now it may be too late, but there are always some late bloomers. Get some game film and send it to some schools. I would send game film and highlights, not just highlights. If you could find a traveling 7 on 7 team and could afford to do so that wouldn't be bad at all either. I'm not really for sure if anyone does that in this state though, but it's huge in the south. As far as QB rating though, I don't know if anyone would even ask for that. Like I said it's more of a product of other factors like who you play with or against (in HS) than a true reflection on how the QB will do in college. There are alot of experienced coaches on this board that could really help you. I'm not experienced at all, these are just my observations from following alot of big school recruiting the last few years :thumb:. Good luck.
