Greenup County - The Best Team in Years, or A Disappointment?

Featured Replies

With Greenup County being tauted as a major power in the pre-season, and being the best Greenup County team in years, are they the best, or a disappointment?

Personally, I think it is a little of both: this team is the best team that Greenup County has put on the field in years, but I think the expectations were a little unrealistic and they underachieved in some games.

This team will be able to say something that no other Greenup team can say in recent history: they beat both Raceland and Russell. But they lost two district games, I expected them to lose to Lawrence County, but they let a big game slip away against Rowan County - one that could have pointed the season in a different direction. Coal Grove, OH should have been a win.

With a record of 5-5, how do you see Greenup season: the best team in years, a disappointment, or a combination of the two?

I don't know much about Greenup County. But a 5-5 record is not worthy of the title "best team in school history". Unless they've been absolutley terrible.

No, I just got tired of researching. Greenup has had problems over the years. They have not had a great deal of success. The 2010 could be argued, and is probably, the best team at Greenup County in quite a while.

I believe with all the talk that came out of Greenup Co. in preseason how good they were going to be. IT has to be a very disappointing season.

This was going to be THE year. All they did was beat the down Rams 6-4, East Carter 1-9, Boyd Co 1-9, Port. ND. And losing all the big games. Lawrence Co, Mason Co, Rowan Co, Ashland and a not so good Coal Grove, Oh. With all the talk that came out of Greenup Co. you would have thought they would at least won the district. Or maybe one of the big games!!! Maybe 5-5 is a big year in GC land!!!

One thing they did have all year was a great running back!! I believe he showed up every game ready to play!! Tough runner!

Ramfan, I agree Lyle always showed up and produced. I would also have to say that Greenup had a great OL, they were there every game as well and a big reason for Lyle's success. I was more impressed with the OL then anything else.

How good is Greenup's defense?

Not very good. For a team that tries to control the time of position with the run up the gut offense they give up a lot of points!!

Thanks. Soon we'll have a Greenup/Knox Central prediction thread and trade some more info on both teams.

You may be right about that RAM. When GC started losing all I heard was about the hurt linemen. I only seen him play once this year of course. And he run the ball really hard. We do seem to make good runners look great at times with our youth on defense!

Other than setting some rushing records & beating two teams who are consistently good (Raceland & Russell) but having "average" years, I'd say it's a disappointing year....best team in school history? No way...I'd say Dunaway & Salisbury's crew ('77 State at Large Champions) would be the best.

Probably the best in recent memory was the Region runner-up finish to Harrison County a few years back although the record wasn't great.

I think the OP meant best in the past decade or so NOT is school history. GC's program has not always been dreadful. It's just dreadful now.

to give an opinion on this years team--very dissapointing. should have been a 7-3 or 6-4 team . And a couple of the losses were ugly ugly ugly. I'm hidinout

Well I guess this ends all the discussions!! What more do we need to no?

Greenup Co gives up 26 ppg with a ball control offense. If you have the ball you can score. No problem!!

Edited by Ramfan Coach!

I thought that they finished about right in the district. Getting beat by Rowan probably hurt the rest of the season for them. A win there and things could have been alot different.
