“Even Trinity had a few down years right after Beatty left” -2020 state champs (Beatty’s last year) -2021 state semis -2022 state quarters -2023 state champs -2024 state quarters……. so far (with Male, Manual and St. X all out in round 2) I wish my team had down years like those.

Any 6A school that wants to try and move toward the Top Tier 6A schools - Male, St. X, Trinity, Manual, Frederick Douglass, and in the last few years Bryan Station, needs to schedule AT LEAST 2 of theses schools (or similar schools like Elder, Cincy X, Bowling Green, Boyle County, etc) each season. Until you play a couple of these PHYSICAL teams in a season, you are not prepared for their physicality at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball…..no matter how many times you have played Ashland, Corbin, Beechwood, Central, etc.

The issue for SK has been their lack of physicality compared to the stronger teams in Louisville and Lexington. Because of that, SK cannot run the ball and put together long drives, keeping the other offense off the field, nor can their defensive line control the line of scrimmage. I looked at a 5 year stretch (Marksburys better teams) leading up to the COVID year of 2020. SK was knocked out of the playoffs by Louisville and Lexington schools as follows: 42-28 by Lafayette; 63-41 by Lafayette; 49-17 by Trinity; 56-28 by Scott County; 47-8 by Tates Creek. The next SK coach must ramp up their lack of physicality on both sides of the ball or they will never be in the discussion for top tier 6A teams.

That game was week 11. Every team in the state has guys injured and sick at that time of the year. The Tigers have 100+ players to choose from. Next man up. No excuses.

Round 3 is based on RPI rankings of remaining schools in your half of the state. Round 4 is RPI rankings of 4 remaining schools, regardless of which half of the state.

Highlands wins with authority and uses this road game to build a ton of momentum for the next couple of rounds.

I believe this game will see MUCH lower scoring than their meeting earlier this season, and, Male will have their hands full this time vs the Bruins. This should be a very close and very competitive game.
