5A Playoffs – Regional Finals - Third Round Game

North Bullitt (7-5) at South Warren (11-1)

Well, I’ll be honest.  I had Grayson County in this thread from the beginning.  But need to tip the cap to Coach Jason Schum and the North Bullitt Eagles for never quitting and avenging a 34 to 7 home loss in early October to Grayson County.

So here we go with this directional battle akin to the Dr. Seuss story of the Zax’s and the North Bound Zax and the South Bound Zax.  One team will have to fall.

This will be the first ever meeting between these two teams.  South Warren is on a 7-game win streak while North Bullitt is on a 3-game win streak.  On to the Team Info sections.

North Bullitt Eagles Information

The Eagles are led by QB Caden Dorsey who has 691 yards passing on the year with 11 TDs vs 3 INTs.  The Senior also has nearly 300 rushing yards on the season with another 8 TDs for the Eagles.  North Bullitt’s leading RB is SR Evan Ernspiker (Great Name!)  with over 800 yards on the year with 4 TDs.  The Eagles leading WR is SR Avery Kelly with 12 catches for nearly 300 yards and 7 TDs on the season.

Defensively, Senior Jayden Burton leads the way with 67 tackles on the year.  Also, SR DB Jackson Dusel has an impressive 6 INTs on the season.

The Eagles depend on the run more than the pass.  They have rushed the ball nearly 2,400 yards on the year and passed for right at 700 yards on the year.  That is a tough stat when you are about to face South Warren.

But North Bullitt has to be high as a kite right now beating a Grayson County team that I’d say few thought they could beat.  Nice win Eagles!

South Warren Information

South Warren continues to be led by QB Bryce Button, who has had a fine senior campaign with just over 2,200 yards on the year with 30 TDs vs 8 INTs.  He is also the 3rd leading rusher on the team with nearly 200 yards on the year and 7 more TDs.  Button has been involved with 36 of the 50 total TDs the Spartans have scored this year – that’s 72% of the TDs on the season.  Impressive.  2-Way Star Colton Veltcamp has 9 receiving TDs on the year to go along with 16 sacks and 61 total tackles on the year (including 25 for loss).  Super Impressive.

So, South should also be running on all cylinders for this game.  They only gave up 71 yards offense to a pretty good Apollo team, as the South DLine feasted on the Apollo Oline and disrupted everything they tried to do.  And Colton Veltcamp is a super player playing his best right now for South Warren with what the BG Daily News reported as 5 QB sacks and 1 TD catch on the night.  Sell some popcorn and there’s nothing left to do for the versatile Spartan!

Game Information

This game will take place in Bowling Green at South Warren High School (OR maybe Warren Central High School.  The Graves County game was moved to Warren Central due to “field issues” at South).  North Bullitt will make the roughly 1-hour and 45-minute trip down to Bowling Green to take on the Spartans.  I-65 will surely be busy with Louisville area teams coming to Bowling Green on Friday!

For South Warren, just keep the ball in Button’s hands and let Veltcamp and the defense keep causing problems for the Eagles offense.  That’s South’s modus operandi!

For North Bullitt, you are the underdog, and few will pick you to win this game.  So, I suggest just having a great week of practice; come in with a positive attitude and leave your best effort on the field.  Good Luck Eagles!

Who you got in this game and why?

South Warren will take this game with ease. I could even see a running clock in this one. There D-line is very impressive and the offense can be explosive at times. To beat them you will have to be able to pass it downfield with efficiency.  I could see something along the lines of a 48-14 final score!

I think the only way North scores 14 points is if SW plays their JV for at least a half.  This will be a running clock.

Oh I agree with you I think all North scores come in the 2nd half!

Regardless of the outcome, good for the kids at North Bullitt getting to the 3rd round of the playoffs.  That senior class has had 4 head football coaches (Billings, Sams, Carbello & Schum) in 4 years now.  I know their district and their sister district in 5A aren't exactly the toughest, but still, just to make it to the regional championship game under those circumstances speaks volumes for those kids.
