This narrative is an insightful and well written analysis of different aspects of high school football…….however, the initial thought of this thread suggested that certain Greater Louisville area schools should consider running a wing-t offense so that their team would have greater competitive success. The real issue is that the schools that the original poster likely had in mind (Shawnee, Iroquois, Western, Doss, Valley, etc) have much more basic issues than the scheme of their offense, or defense for that matter. Their core issues are lack of roster numbers, lack of a fully staffed coaching staff, lack of competitive football facilities- all of which lead to a lack of fundamentals, lack of skills and lack of the ability to execute all 3 phases of football at any competitive level. It is sad to see this year in and year out at those schools.

How about starting here? This is based on 30 minutes of rapid research, so, not exactly right but approximately right -4 classes -6 to 8 schools in each district -8 districts in each class -Either bottom school or bottom two schools in regular season district records DO NOT make the playoffs (whichever way the math works) -Add a feature such as Indiana has where the KHSAA could move a school up or down in class every 4 years based on performance trends -Yes, several schools will have more bus travel for district games than current model -Yes, not every school advances out of district to the playoffs Make the regular season count Earn the playoffs The class breakouts; -4A = schools with 650+ boys (roughly Woodford County at the low end at 650 boys to Lafayette or Trinity at the high end at 1,150 boys) -3A = schools with 400 to 649 boys (roughly Bourbon County at the low end to Christian County at the high end) -2A = schools with 250 to 399 boys (roughly Metcalfe County on the low end to Mercer County on the high end) -1A = schools up to 249 boys (roughly Fulton County at the low end to Green County on the high end)

Once you get parked and on the campus, Highlands has a GREAT environment for a high school football playoff game.

You might want to look at the Will Wolford 5 year era at St. X before Wallace. In those 5 years the Tigers lost half as many games as they won and Trinity beat them 8 different times. Trend not good. At that same time, Trinity was Trinity, Male got better and better and FD came along in Lexington.

Assigned by the KHSAA to geographic areas they do not normally officiate.

The word I heard (all speculation) is that he wanted a “break” at the same time his daughter would be graduating high school and after this senior class of Male football.

Maybe he would be excited about a step up in class.
