Va Tech didn't win their conference. They got steamrolled. They won their division. Big difference in my opinion. No way they should've made it over Boise St or Kansas State. Heck, Houston has more top 25 wins than they did (no, I do not think Houston should be in over them, just stating facts).

You are elevating what it means to play in a BCS game. It does not mean you are one of the top X amount of teams. With the exception of the national championship game, the idea is to bring in the most money.

Unfortunately for BCS detractors and playoff proponents, the BCS got it right again. As long as the BCS keeps putting the right two teams in the title game, nothing is going to change.

I do not think any of those teams win the whole thing, don't get me wrong. We have seen upsets in football. These teams won their division in the FCS, so I think they deserve a shot. I also do not think the big boys would complain since they get one more home game and the revenue that comes with it.

 

And that TCU teams that "sucks" would probably win the Big East this year, JMO.

Or the Big Ten last year.

A 16 team play is no good, an 8 team playoff would be the best thing. You take the 6 conference champions from the BCS conferences, and then have two at larges. So teams like a Boise could make it, or an Bama who could make it still even though they didn't win the conference championshp.

 

You have the first round of the playoffs the week after the season ends with the top 4 seeds having their games at home. Then you get your normal few week break, and play the semi finals in two BCS bowls that rotate every year, and then the next week is the Championship. This way the season still means something because the only way to guarntee you make the playoffs is winning your conference, but it also gives a small school a shot like Boise. It also allows all the other bowls to be in place still. Best of all it lets it be settled on the field.

 

So a 23rd ranked W.Va. gets in a 8 team playoff to decide NC?

I like it. Exactly what should be. By the way Houston is ranked #19 by the BCS so no they don't deserve to be in.

Getting to the national championship game is about putting together a solid schedule and then dominating it. Getting to a BCS Bowl (so long as you are in an AQ conference) is about putting together a schedule of patsies and rolling it. VaTech's non-conference opponents: Appalachian State, East Carolina, Arkansas St., Marshall. They have exactly ZERO wins over teams currently ranked in the top 25.

 

To my mind, Boise St. and Kansas St. both have better claims as teams with solid overall seasons but, like VaTech, failed to win their conference.

 

I agree completely; Boise State and Kansas State were far more worthy of at large selections than the Hokies.

You are right the BCS got it right. I do not see how anyone can argue that fact and here is why. BCS final rankings = 1 LSU 2 Bama, 3 OSU, Harris poll is the same, Coaches poll is the same, AND the AP poll is the same. If there were descrepencies then I could see an arguement, but there are not.

 

As far as a playoff I don't see the schools going for it. Right now 70 teams of 120 get to play in the post season. That would have to be drastically changed. Then you could only use the conferecne champions, since that is why many people are not happy with the Bama thing. So many more reasons and arguements to bring up, but won't do that now.

 

If you want to be mad and fairness then discuss Bosie State getting the shaft and Virginia Tech gettign to the Sugar Bowl.

You're kidding right? Boise would have close to ZERO chance of being one of those two at large births. There will always those who believe a two or three loss SEC team is better than an undefeated Mountain West team...regardless of what type of schedule each plays or how they perform. There is an ubelievable bias by the coaches in this type of thing (see Clyde's thread on this year's voting). That's why you need to go ahead and include all 11 conferences, and go to 16 teams. The 5 at large bids will also help overcome any upsets in the conference championship games too.

The BCS is faulty for that simple fact...it is NOT determined on the field.

In a large playoff I'd like the Ducks and Cowboys chances. Tough matchup in a short week.

Not sure I would have agreed on the Yankees (Rangers were only one game behind the Yankees and were a better team IMO) but definitely agree on the Phillies. We all know the best team often doesn't win in sports. Crazy things do happen on the field. Yes, the Cardinals won the World Series but does anyone really believe they were the best team in baseball this year? We often see upsets in sports. Seattle won a playoff game last year. Start your own list and it will be very long of crazy upsets in sports. But the fact is the right two teams are in the title game. Maybe Ok. St. could beat either of them 2 out of 10 times and if they played in the title game and won, no way I would say they are the best team. I would say it was one of those 2 of 10 times they got the win. The BCS title is determined on the field between the two best teams and they are getting it right year after year IMO.
