3. Belfry - though they played a horrific first half, they turned it around

in the second at Henry R. Evans stadium. Was it the dreaded Russell

4. Owensboro Catholic - they beat Ft. Campbell; they are better in

my book, but I never saw Ft. Campbell, so I can't make the best

of calls on this one.

for whatever reason they could not pull it off. But again, I didn't get

to see them.

I've seen more than a few people post teams other than the champ in each class at #1...How can you do that?? The teams that won did what they had to do to win their respective titles so #1 in each class should be without debate...

 

How can you possibly be rated higher than the champion??

 

Now, if you think the Newport/Russell or X/Trinity or whatever game that was played down the playoff road could have gone either way, then rate yourself as #2 but you lost the game so how can you be equal?? Certainly X has a little more argument than Newport because they beat Trinity head to head earlier in the year but Newport lost and on their home field...

 

Here's an example that is very painful to Russell fans...In 2002 against Breathitt we lost by 1 to them in overtime on their field in the state semi's...The next week they went on and BLASTED Corbin 52-0 for the championship...That made that defeat hurt even more...We think we could/should have won against Breathitt & gone on to win the title...So, even though I feel we were as good as Breathitt, they beat us head to head so they are #1...I would certainly rate us ahead of Corbin that year at #2...There are no ties in football...

Again, upsets happen ... the best team doesn't always win the championship.

 

Remember Villanova-Georgetown and N.C. State-Houston? To this day, no one in their right mind will insist that Villanova and N.C. State were better than the teams they beat, but they did prevail by rising to the occasion when it counted the most.

I assume you're refering to the Newport/Fleming score? Newport won 16 - 15.

I would agree Russell is number one. It is also very clear to me that Neport is number two. Russell will have a target on thier chest next year but watch out for Newport. You may see newport at Russell next year.

I predict you will see Russell at either Belfry or Middlesboro.

If these things weren't up for debate, then this forum wouldn't be much fun. Here's my crack at it.

1A:

1. NCC- Probably the best team in 1A and 2A at the end of the year.

2. Lex Christian - Runner-up in Toughest Region in 1A. Big win over Beechwood in Playoffs earned them this spot in my eyes.

3. Somerset - Fell victim to #1 in Semifinals. Newell and Deaton were tough!

4. Mayfield - Earned a Trip to Louisville. Just didn't look very good when they got there. Playing a Team like the one NCC had will do that to you!

5. Bardstown - Shutout win over Danville in the Playoffs earns spot in Top 5.

2A:

1. Russell - All they did was Win! They played very discipline, mistake free, hard-nosed football all the way through the playoffs.

2. Owensboro Catholic - If they score right before the half, the Championship game could have been very interesting in the 2nd half.

3. Newport - Improved tremendously from the NCC game to the Russell game! Loss to State Champs by a point in OT puts them here.

4. Ft. Campbell - Very talented Team!

5. Belfry - Their region just seemed to be down this year. Very respectable showing in Semis versus State Champ though.

3A:

1. LexCath - As soon as they won their region, they were going to win it all! Very explosive Football team!

2A. Highlands - Had to replace the most in 3A this season. Lack of scoring cost them in the end.

2B. CovCath - Loss to State Champ by 3 points on the road. Very explosive Offense at times.

2C. Rocastle County - Suffered more key injuries than probably any team in the state! Their kids play as hard as anybody's I've seen.

5. Bowling Green - I think they would have struggled against any of the teams above. Next year that may not be the case!

4A:

1. Trinity - Defense wins Championships and I think they really showed that in the Semis versus Henry Clay and the Championship versus St. X

2. St X- Great Team. Probably one of the best teams in a while that didn't win it!

3. Henry Clay - Ran into a very determined team in the Semifinals! Tons of Talent!

4. John Hardin - Best coaching job in the state this year IMO! Beat Male and Lost to X by a point. Tough Break!

5. Male - Could have given any of the above 4 all that they wanted.

I completely agree. Thats why i put Newport number 2 for the same reason I feel that you guys were the number 2 team in 02. I remember that very well, Breathitt killed everyone that year except when you guys lost by 1 in OT.
