Your Top 5 by Class now that the season is over?

I completely agree. Thats why i put Newport number 2 for the same reason I feel that you guys were the number 2 team in 02. I remember that very well, Breathitt killed everyone that year except when you guys lost by 1 in OT.

Don't remind me! The memory of that game still makes me ill...:creepy:

I could not sleep for several days after that game. It was just so hard to take after being up by 15 going into the fourth and then they tie it up. Then loose it in double OT. Heartbreaking.

3A:

LexCath

CovCath

Highlands

Harrison County

Bowling Green

When healthy, Harrison could play with just about anyone in 3A. Had Lex Cath down 17 in the 4th. QB was injured and out for the year, right before the Franklin game. And it's not like Franklin was a joke- two losses, on the road at Lex Cath and Highlands. Went up to a tough place to play at Cov. Cath with a new starting QB and had a chance if they recovered the onsides kick. Seemed to me to be a similar team to Rockcastle. When they played with passion, they were tough.

Harrison when healthy was much better than most around the state realize. Franklin had an awsome offense but very little defense. South Oldham and Bullitt East would be in the top 10 too.

Its a shame Harrison was not healthy. They looked like a solid team.

1) Lexington Catholic

2) Highlands

3/4) Bowling Green/Cov Cath

5) Harrison when healthy....Rockcastle after Harrison was banged up.

I know this is an old topic but there isn't much else to talk about this off-season.

I cannot figure out how so many people are automatically putting Bowling Green in the top 5 and Harrison County.

I realize Rockcastle County lost by the same amount of points as Bowling Green did to Lexington Catholic, however, if you were at the state championship game, Bowling Green was wiped off the map and Lexington Catholic hit cruise control. BG was never ever in that game.

Rockcastle County was virtually tied with Lexington Catholic at their field down 21-20 at halftime. Rock held LC in their first two possessions after the half and Rock broke away a 75 yard run from their own 2 yard line to get inside the LC 30 yard line. A wide open WR was awaiting in the end zone but a blitzer (great call) hit Rock's QB as he released it and LC linebcker was just standing beyond the LOS and scooped it up and ran it back 40 yards. Rock was that close to taking the lead on Lexington Catholic. Mid ways through the 3rd quarter. After that Lexington Catholic hit two double reverse trick passes that scored. The two trick plays took Rock out of their element and they were forced to play catch up. Lexington Catholic got a late 70 yard touchdown run up the gut from Israel with about 1 minute left in the game to make it 48-20. I thought it was a great game, maybe I'm biased but many people I've spoken to that was at the game said the same thing as well that was from other schools.

About Harrison County, Rock beat them when they were healthy 32-14 and it wasn't even that close at their field. Rock had 2 starters out that game, who did Harrison County have? It was the 3rd week of the year. I wasn't aware they had lost anyone at that point. Western a AA school also beat Harrison County the 1st or 2nd week of the year, who was injured then?

Just curious why so many people thought Rock didn't deserve to be in the top 5? Just friendly conversation... :thumb:

Bowling Green also played St. Xavier very tough and beat Warren Central, a Class 4A semifinalist. One bad performance, albeit in the biggest game of the season, doesn't change that.

The only thing Harrison County did to earn a top-5 mention is play Lexington Catholic close. This is, after all, the same team that lost to Western, which was a decent 2A team but nowhere near the level of 3A contender.

Rockcastle also got drubbed 34-0 by a class A Danville team that didn't even win its region and was hammered by Boyle County. One could go on for days making comparisons for and against any team.

Harrison played well enough in the first round of the AAA playoffs to give CovCath a scare, 17 - 14.

I would say that Rock and Harrison were like twin football teams. Similar style and similar circumstances. Rock also lost a kid, one of the running backs, I think, before the LC game. Harrison started the season slow, but once they hit the LC game, they took it up many notches. Some people may say choke, wile it may be that LC just had thier number. Beat Harrison the season before only after stopping a two point conversion that would have won the game with no time left. Agianst Cov Cath, they had thier chance to roll over and die, but were a different team mentally than early in the season. If high school kids get thier heads on straight, they can get rolling. Rock had some slips too early on, but look what they did agianst Bell Co. As time has gone by, sometimes you wonder if the top 5 should all come from the eastern side of the state. No disrespect meant to Bowling Green; they had a great season, just not when it mattered most. What does everyone think would have happened if Rock, Highlands, Cov Cath, Harrison, Franklin, were matched up agianst Bowling Green? Could any of those defenses play the way LC's did? Would BG's defense do the same aginst the other teams offense?
