It's not HIS Pirates. I would rank Russell ahead of us if it makes you feel any better. I would like another crack at them, but thats not the way it works.

Boy, it sure must be hard to take off those rose colored glasses, huh?

From all I've read about the top 3A teams, I'll say:

 

1. LexCath

2. Highlands/CovCath (tie)

4. Bowling Green

5. Boyle County

 

When you are talking about playoff games, which are "one and done," it's all about the matchups. I think that Highlands would have matched up better against teams like Rockcastle Co, BG, Boyle Co, and Hoptown than they did against LexCath, because LexCath had what HHS' strengths typically are (team speed, good conditioning, depth), only LexCath had MORE of these qualities.

 

There can be no doubt that LexCath was the best 3A team this year (which is more than you can probably say for 2A and 4A, where the title winners may actually not be the best team in their classes).

There was a large gap between Lexington Catholic and the field in 3A this season. It is amazing to see so many people still penciling in Highlands and CovCath in the top two or three after their playoff performances. They did nothing to establish that they were any better than a half dozen other teams, IMO.

Go look at the scores of all the LC games versus 3A schools. To me, there is one that jumps out. The touted # 1 defense in the state couldn't hold LC under 40 and barely held them under 50. I think that speaks volumes for one of the schools you've dismissed.

I don't think its ridiculous to say ANY team in the Semi's who lost by a SMALL margin to the team who won it all was the best team. True, the teams who got there got it done on their ANY GIVEN FRIDAY, but this thread is about rating teams on who is each poster's honest opinon was the best team.

 

Saying Ft. Campbell was better than OC or Belfry was better than Russell is not obsurd.

I have respect for Russell, and there not my Belfry Pirates. I just believe that Belfry was the better team. Maynard did not have his night and Haywood wasn't on top of his game either.

I don't think there was a large gap at all ... after all, LexCath only beat CovCath by three points at home in the playoffs and barely beat Harrison County. Bowling Green was right there with the Knights, but simply laid an egg at the most inappropriate time.

I have respect for Russell, and there not my Belfry Pirates. I just believe that Belfry was the better team. Maynard did not have his night and Haywood wasn't on top of his game either.

Maybe they were not on top of their game because Russell was the better team. That was obvious.
