Anthony verdict is in -Not Guilty!!!

And for those who despise defense lawyers, I'm totally opposite. I admire them. They believe in their clients, and they do their jobs, defend their clients. It's most likely a thankless job, as far as most of the public are concerned. But do not think there aren't shady prosecutors out there, because there are.

In the end, you have to trust the jury. And if a jury isn't convinced, they can't convict. I actually admire them for coming to that conclusion. It sure beats the juries of those who are imprisoned and later found to be not guilty by new evidence or DNA.

I concur. The media makes defense attorneys look like scum. If any of my kids were ever in a situation where they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, or somehow framed and some key evidence was found in their car, house, etc, I sure hope a good defense attorney will be standing by.

OMG, there is still a baby dead. That's not going away. Now what? What happens with following up on what happened to this baby and bringing someone to justice. This can't be over, right? I mean seriously, that is what upsets me the most.

I don't know now if we will ever know. Even if C. Anthony comes out with a book (which jmo she will), who could believe anything she puts in it? I would say that everyone that knows what happened woul tell you that Casey did it. Her X boyfriend has as much said that she murdered her baby. Reports were that he was furious about the verdict.

Our legal system has flaws just like any other system. Just like everyone else, I definitely believe that she did do it. However the way our system works, these things happen sometimes. I mean I am sure there has been plenty of times where there has been evidence to put someone who was really actually innocent behind bars before too, which is horrible to do too. So our system worked, it just dind't produce the right result. Just like sometimes it works, and it produces a result where an innocent person is sent to jail. The system we have in place right now is the best system to use, unless someone can think of a better one.

In the end if she did do this, which I think we all think she did. Then she will eventually have to pay for these crimes, when her time on earth is up.

Caylee was found in a bag with duct tape over her mouth and nose. Those are facts that don’t point toward an accidental death. The chloroform is produced by decomposing bodies. Caylee’s hair was found in the trunk of the car, the chloroform levels in the trunk were extremely high, and the car smelled like a decomposing body. Her body was found a half mile from the house.

Which would make sense if her child accidently drown and she freaked out and tried to cover it up. That's just one of several holes in the prosecutions case, I didn't even follow the trial but I'm not completely shocked by the outcome.

I didn't follow this case much, but have read a decent amount about it now that it is over and I thought this quote from Nancy Grace was interesting when answering a question from CNN:

CNN: As a former prosecutor, if you could retry this case, how would you do it differently?

Grace: I think they did such a very good job it’s hard to attack anything they did. I think maybe I would’ve taken a different tack in jury selection but that’s really it. There were some obvious problem jurors: You had one on there with an arrest for DUI; another with an arrest for drug paraphernalia; one who, along with his sister, had beaten up their father; one juror who said she could not judge. Why the heck would you not want someone off the jury who cannot judge? The jury is the sole judge of facts, evidence and the law. Who the heck wants someone who can’t judge? They tried to get rid of them but were not successful. I think the jury was snakebitten from the get-go.

Now I know this is real life and not Hollywood, but it really reminds me of Runaway Jury and makes me wonder how much something like that could have played a part here? Just a talking piece that I haven't really seen anyone mention in this thread, or is that too unrealistic?

Sentenced to 4 years in jail for lying to police....Should be out pretty soon based on time served and good behavior.

good behavior.
Casey Anthony and good behavior. Talk about an oxymoron.

It is interesting to think about where does Casey Anthony goes from here. Think about the day she is released from prison, it is not as if she is going to have a homecoming parade or cookout at her family's house. Does she rent an apartment, take a vacation, hit up a bar, eat at Rafferty's, does E! put her up in a lavish house?

Not a fact. A theory by the prosecution that the jurors didn't totally believe.

Caylee's hair was NOT FOUND in the trunk. One single strand of hair was.

The chloroform levels were not extremely high and could be explained away by some household products including all laundry detergents have a level of chloroform in them.

As far as the body being found less than a mile away, this one really had me baffled. Cindy hired two private eyes to search that exact location based on a tip from a psychic. (she lied about it on the stand and her son Lee said she had lied about it.) The PI's found NOTHING.

A month or so later was when the first calls from Ron Kronk were made about seeing something that looked like a skull.

If a person was LOOKING to convict her they could. If a person was needing to be convinced by the evidence, there is enough holes that they could realistically not be convinced.

The reasonable doubt is did Casey put the duct tape over Caylee's mouth and nose. There is absolutely no definitive evidence that Casey had anything at all to do with her daughter's death. That's the challenge...putting all the circumstantial evidence into a case that defines, beyond reasonable doubt, that Casey killed her daughter. They can't even prove she was the last one to see her alive. Did she act out of what we presume to be the character of a mother who's child was missing? Absolutely. But it doesn't put her at the scene of the crime. Do I feel she's a terrible mother? Absolutely. But does that make her the murderer? I can't say I would feel what was presented means so. There's no question her character is shady. But shady character doesn't define murder.

Not enough evidence to convict on first degree murder I can agree with. However, there is enough circumstantial evidence to convict on at least one of the lesser charges of aggravated manslaughter or aggravated child abuse. A number of people are saying that the prosecution messed this up by going for charges that they didn’t have enough evidence for and that is probably the case. Not to mention the death penalty, which watching the interview last night with the one juror she mentioned several times that she didn’t want to kill Casey by convicting her of Murder.

Based on her behavior, the timeline of events, and the evidence I’ve seen I’m convinced she was involved in Caylee’s death. Whether she actually killed her, dumped her in the swamp after she drowned, or was involved with her family who did one of the two I don’t know, but she should have been convicted of something other than lying to the police and serve more than three years for her daughter’s death.

So you're pretty much saying, "the heck with our justice system", "heck with everyone gets a fair trial"....?

Fair trial? Tell that to her kid. I'm sorry but if all kinds of circumstantial evidence points back at someone, and they have no real defense to their actions, they're guilty. We've made it to where murder is the easiest crime to get away with. My brother is in corrections, and he says prisoners say that. Unless someone sees you do it or you're extremely sloppy, if you have a decent lawyer you'll get away with it. That's not a fair trial. That is not justice. Casey Anthony's trial did not provide justice. It provided that we have a broken court system when it comes to murder.

The really sad thing is that a two year old girl is dead and her family is very likely going to profit from it. Of course she will cite legal bills and having to pay for the investigation as reasoning, but as we all know you can’t believe anything this women says anyway.

CNN is reporting she will be released from jail Wednesday, July 13. So she's got to serve five more days.

Good. I'd rather her be released sooner than later. My guess is that she ends up back in jail in less than one year.

Legal bills? I though that the state paid for her lawyers, just what I heard from a friend in Florida.

I believe I read that there were other possible charges but the grand jury thought the highest charges were the correct ones.
