Sure, a smaller school is capable of beating a larger school. It happens all of the time, but I thought we were talking about the last 50 years or so. Over that stretch of time, I think Trinity and St. X, with their 20 and 12 state titles is more impressive than anyone else.

If Trinity and St. Xavier didn't enjoy such an enrollment advantage over its competition, I would agree.

 

I still think that Highlands' performance over the last 30 or 40 years is much more impressive.

Clearly we all have our own opinions of what should count the most. To me the 2 most impressive teams of all time are #1 Highlands and #2 Male. They have pretty much done it since day 1 and still do. I will agree that the 2 big privates are 1 and 2 in Louisville but I still give Male the nod for now though at the rate T and X are going it will not take much more for me to drop Male. My #3 and #4 would be Mayfield and Danville who also have been dominate pretty much since the begining and both won some of their titles while playing up in class as did Highlands. Mayfield has also defeated a 6A champ in the year they were 6A champs, well 4A at the time was the largest class so I should have said 4A. I admit to not knowing enough about X but I suspect they should be my #5, a brief read of this thread made me realize I had no idea they had been as successful as they have. From here I am unsure and yes I realize Trinity is not in my top #5 of all time granted if this was a recent lists they would have my #1 or #2 spot and if they continue to dominate they will be at the 1 or 2 spot. Who besides all these teams deserve to be on this lists? Ashland, Beechwood, BG, Owensboro? The top few are obvious, picking the rest is more difficult

^ I still maintain that Boyle County should be on the list. Beechwood should be as well. Bowling Green is worthy of discussion also as is Covington Catholic.

I was asked for the logic in my post. I gave it. There is a reason why there are 6 classes in Kentucky. 6a is for the biggest schools. A title in 6a is more impressive to me than a title in a lower class. I don't care how many classes you play up. That is my opinion.

 

What if the best team is not in the class with the biggest enrollment?
