As I have said, it has happened before and may happen again, but to think that over the long haul that the smaller schools can "consistently" beat T and X, just isn't going to happen. Please prove me wrong. Please, please, please, sign up for a 10 year home and away series with T and X. Then we will see.

Why should Highlands or Boyle County or Covington Catholic, or even Danville or Mayfield, do such a thing?

 

No one is claiming those schools would beat Trinity and/or St. Xavier on a regular basis. Some of us do claim that Highlands and perhaps even some other schools should have their program held in at least the same regard because they don't enjoy the significant advantage that the two Catholic-school behemoths do.

If that was the thread title then I would have to say Boyle County/Danville. With a county population of around 28,000.

2000,2001,2003 both state champions 2004 both runner up state champs.That was when there were only four classes.

If Trinity and St. Xavier didn't enjoy such an enrollment advantage over its competition, I would agree.

 

I still think that Highlands' performance over the last 30 or 40 years is much more impressive.

 

Regardless of whether or not it is more impressive, isn't the question. IMO, Trinity is the best program in the state, and has been for the last 25 years or so. Doesn't matter if they have 2,000 more boys or not.

The title of this thread is "Who do you think are Kentucky's all time greatest gridiron programs." I gave my opinion, stated my reasons, and then defended my reasons. That's what a message board is for.

I don't think anyone is questioning Trinity's gridiron dominance over the past few decades, but the school is not that old (started in 1953). There are some successful programs in KY that were playing football for several decades before Trinity even came into existence. I think that is why some posters may not be ranking Trinity number one on this list.

Trinity, in my opinion, would still not rank above Highlands. Trinity is a super program but what a much smaller Highlands has done to me tops all easily
