The only way SK can even get into being considered is winning the next 5 state titles. And even then it will be pushing it. Not much history of football success in Independence. I doubt they even have a half dozen district titles in their history.

Clearly I need to add X and some on here have sold me with needing to add T even with a shorter history. Besides Highlands who in NKY should be on here and EKY surely there is others besides Ashland. I can seem to find a reason to add a Lexington team which is suprising

 

Shouldn't be too surprising really. A lot of the Lexington schools play in the highest division, which means they rarely win titles or even make the title game. Unless you count Scott County, a true Lexington school hasn't even made the title game at the highest class since 1999, and hasn't won it since 1981. And none of them have a particularly high amount of wins, at least if the KHSAA records are correct.

It doesn't matter if they produced an NFL 1st round pick every year for the past 20 years (and they haven't ), that isn't good enough for them to be included in this discussion.

Male down at #8 seems low to me. Beechwood at #5 seems high to me but only by a couple of spots though they have been a monster for the last couple of decades. Boyle has been great lately but were average or worse historically. I thought you might have Ashland in there somewhere. I'm still pondering my lists and will post all my picks as soon as I figure them out.

The earliest info I could find on Lynch East Main was from 1959 to 1971, I know they played before 1959. Class A State Championship 59- won 60-won 61-r-up 62-r-up 63-r-up 68-won 70-r-up 71-r-up I'm sure they were a power long before 1959.

This should be broken down. Large schools. Small schools. Sm. Mayfield, Danville ect------Lg. Trinity, Highlands ect.

Boyle County was the first team to win 5 consecutive championships which spanned going from 2A to 3A(including defeating the #1 program twice in one season), they have one of the longest game winning streaks in the history of the state and if I am not mistaken they are the top ten in titles with 7. How can they not be one of the top 10 programs of all time? Boyle County is expected to defeat anyone they play not named Highlands, Trinity or St. X. Historically they may not have the wins as some other programs but what they have accomplished since 1999 is unprecedented in this state.

 

 

Am I biased? Probably. Either way it goes Boyle County will be a prestigious football program in our state for the remainder of our lives at the very least. As will Danville.

Highlands clearly deserves the #1 ranking, given their number of state titles and the fact that they have done it without enjoying a huge enrollment advantage over the vast majority of schools in their class.

 

I can see Trinity at #2, but I would think that Danville certainly has a legitimate case for the same reason I cited above. Some of the Admirals' state titles came when they were playing up in class.

I completely agree; both programs have accomplished more than enough.

There are many great teams. If asked to choose the best of the state all time, I would say Highlands, Trinity, St. X, Male, Beechwood, Mayfield, Danville, Newport Catholic, Cov Cath, and Tilghman.

 

I'm sure that plenty others are worthy of mention, but if going back over the years, all of those teams have fared well.
