Enes Kanter appeal

Featured Replies

Depends on who is reporting. Vaught says yes . Dawson says no.

Vaught's in a terrible slump, so I'm saying he'll swing & miss again. Will be interesting to see if the NCAA calls Enes' bluff on playing next year.

Internet chatter saying there may be a ruling today on Kanter.

I think that is 100% pure speculation.

If Enes is permanently ineligible, it'll be pretty tough for him to play at UK next season or in 2012. Permanently ineligible is permanently ineligible. Now if he's suspended for this season only, I think he'll stay at UK. I had hoped that all along. But if he's ruled permanently ineligible, there's really no reason for him to stay.

I keep getting the sense the NCAA will just stick by their ruling and the Kanters believe as such which is why the dad can say what he did.

Can't Enes just plead ignorance of the rules, I mean he was 15 or 16 at the time.

Seems to be working for others.

Also, have heard that UK may be the ones dragging their feet to an extent.

Who knows. Just wish we can find out one way or the other.

Dr. Kanter's comments blew me away, as I've felt it a foregone conclusion that Enes would only make his services available in 2010-11. Will be interesting to see if the good doctor holds true to his word, if indeed the NCAA forces Enes to sit for a year.

I've never felt it was a foregone conclusion. The guy turned down too much cash in the past, and passed on the opportunity to go to the NBA, to come to UK in the first place. That always seemed like a huge effort for a single season at UK.

NCAA says no decision before Jan 1.

Here's the link on the NCAA saying no ruling until the new year:

Looks like Enes should have played football for a team competing in a BCS game if he wanted a decision favorable for him & one done in a reasonable amount of time.

Is there anyone out there who actually defends the NCAA for being an organization with genuine concerns for their supposed "student-athletes?" First we have the Cam Newton deal. Then we have the Ohio State guys who committed violations worthy of 5-game suspensions, but won't be served until AFTER their BCS game. These people are such fools, it's ridiculous that they have any power or influence over collegiate athletics.

I think the NCAA is already using this themselves.

Guess what?...... 7 pages, 325 or so post and still no decision so here is todays no news post.

:ohbrother:

How much on this can be talked about ? Obviously alot withnothing to talk about.

:thumb: Good post. They do owe it to the kid.

No disrespect meant, but the NCAA doesn't owe ANYTHING to Enes. He broke the rules, so now they're investigating it.

There's obviously more to the story than any of us know, or a decision would be made by now. I personally think he should be allowed to play but let's wait and see what happens before we make comments like the above. You saying that is me simply thinking they owe YOU an answer. Just my opinion.

I can almost guarantee if this wasn't a UK player, we wouldn't have 7 pages of speculation.

Enes was at the Applebees in Crescent Springs yesterday.

No disrespect meant, but the NCAA doesn't owe ANYTHING to Enes.

They owe it to the membership to fairly and consistently apply their own rules. To keep Enes out while continuing to issue baffling rulings to let other guys play is ridiculous.

This gets the most obvious line of the year award...there are a ton of UK fans on here so of course we care more about this one that any of the others. Just because these fans have more invested in this ruling than any other doesn't mean that their posts aren't genuine or that they aren't true. There have been some very good points made about the NCAA in this thread PERIOD. Because it just happens to come from fans that have a horse in the race shouldn't blind you to the point that you come just short of defending the NCAA...

And yes, the NCAA does owe this to Enes and every other kid in a similar situation because without them they make no money. We all know that is the bottom line here and in most of the other cases

Speaking of UK players, I am almost certain if any other school recruited(Washington) Kanter he would be playing right now. This thing only happens to Kentucky. Calipari better watch what he does in future recruiting.

I've said this all along. Kanter would be playing by now if he had signed anywhere else.

There's nothing in this decision to make it take so long. A 16/17 year old kid played for a professional club in Turkey who gave his family a nominal fee for his services, which they then used for educational expenses (and have documentation to prove it). If the club had paid directly for the educational expenses everything would be okay right now. But the money filtered from the club through the parents and was utilized for education. I'm sure the parents were not aware of this techicality or they would have avoided it.

This seems like an easy decision to me. Sit the kid for a few games, pay back the money, a let him get on with his college career. Enes should not be made to suffer like this for something that happened when he was a 16 year old teenager.
