Having seen CovCath Play against Ryle, La Salle, Beechwood, NewCath, Johnson Central and Highlands, Jude is by far the best back they have faced. His ability to slip tackles and his balance are as good as any I have seen in HS. Having said that his O-line and lead blockers are what make the JC offense go.

Honestly Highlands LB's are much better than CovCath's, so I would envision the running lanes being a bit tighter for Mr. Jude this Friday. I think he will have a strong rushing total, but he won't find himself 4 - 6 yards past the LOS before he gets hit, like he did last week.

 

If you want a description JJ Jude's style I would say it's similar to former Bird RB Kramer, with a bit of Travis Elliot mixed in.

He beat Highlands that same year though. Look at what Leslie Co. has done before and since Couch was there. Johnson Central and Ryle both have much much much better supporting casts. You don't have to convince me. I was just responding to why some people may have doubts or why JC fans may have confidence. Didn't say I have doubts as I believe HHS will be ready both mentally and physically.

 

It's an open forum but I'm sure you're aware I know I don't have to convince you but really I think these predictions don't seem to realistic. However the last time I thought HHS would handle business they lost.... I don't think this will be the case, no offense to JC but I do think Ryle is a bit more versatile and bigger than JC.

Heck, if Dale wasnt the sportsman that he is, Couch would have not broken the national td record let alone score in that game.

Having seen Mr. Jude myself, I can assure you this is not the case. He is a tough runner, and will not be brought down by an arm tackle. Time and time again in the JC/Ashland game, Jude was in the clutches of an Ashland player, only to break free and gain more yards. Of course, it didn't help that the other Ashland players not currently holding onto Jude slowed down or let up.

 

He is an evasive runner and will be taken seriously this week. With that being said, having seen JC, I believe there are some opportunities to minimize his effectiveness that I hope we exploit this week. Time will tell.

Wrestling is so beneficial to football players. I don't understand why more schools don't have it. People on here have mentioned how great his balance is and have credited wrestling in no small part.

 

The one thing that Highlands has going for it that CovCath does not, is gang tackling every single play. Very rarely do you see a runner break a tackle against Highlands and not be immediately hit by two more birds and then about 6 more. They will need all of that on Friday.

Articles have stated that he may be wrestling at a higher weight this year, or he'll have to cut back down to 160. Not really that uncommon to be heavier than your competing weight when you are out of season.

Sweep, I agree with BGBird. Jude is the best RB we will have faced this year and I don't think it's close. He's fast, runs with much more power than his size would indicate, and is elusive but doesn't dance in the hole. He has great vision, goes into the hole, plants a foot and cuts at full speed. We better have a lot of guys flying to him but not forget about their QB. JC loves to have him fake the ball to Jude, have the QB keep the ball and run either a naked bootleg to the backside or keep the ball and run around the frontside end, which as you'll recall, they did with some success in first half last year. The QB, Hall, can flat out fly. If they sneak him out to a receiver position, you can almost count on them throwing the ball to him deep.

My guess is the kid is less than 175. Program weight seems to run higher than usual.

 

Secondly, wrestlers always wrestle at a lower weight than their football weight.

Jude ran a 11.80 in the 100m at Kentucky State Track Meet '10, placing 20th. He also ran a 23.30 in the 200m at Kentucky State Track Meet, placing 15th.

 

At the 7AA Regionals '10, he placed first in both the 100m with a 11.46 and the 200m with a 23.24.

Not to change the subject , but assuming the Birds are healthy this week , who will be the QB for Highlands ?( I'm not expecting an answere.) McCoy could play QB and Towles could play tailback , imagine that , a 6'4 230 lb tailback , as big as a horse and runs like a rabbit. Tight end would also be a good spot for Towles , end around or tight end screen would be effective .I think it will be interesting to see what Dale does with his playmakers this Friday.

Is Jude the only weapon that JC has ? Just wondering , Boone County couldn't win state with Alexander , again a one dementional team.

 

To answer your question: No. Their QB, Hall, is a very dangerous runner made even more dangerous when Defenses focus too much on Jude. Bratton is a very tough inside runner. Ousley is a big old boy that can pound the ball between the tackles when he's not blocking for the others.
