December 12, 201015 yr There is absolutely ZERO reason to keep Palmer around at his salary next year. Zero. None. If he was one of the lower paid QB's in the league, then I could possibly see keeping him given the fact that the 'Gals have needs at so many other spots. But he commands one of the top 5 or 6 salaries in the league and produces in the range of one of the bottom tier QB's in the league. If the 'Gals have a freakin' clue, he'll be gone. Unfortunately, I'm guessing he'll be back and every bit as horrific next year. 19 million next year. He should be arrested. Now I do agree with this. With his current play he does not deserve to make that much money. This is doubtful, however maybe the club will come to him to rework his contract to it won't be as much. This way they can use that money to get a few different guys in, or coaches, and also draft a young QB.
December 12, 201015 yr I will say this. I don't know if the Gals would be any better with a different QB. The most certainly would not be any worse. And i do maintain they win today with Akili Smith back there. The thing with Carson is that he costs too much money and offers no ability to help this team win. He has to go. Even if a draft choice doesn't play well next year, there is at least a future to think about. With Carson there is no future. Only futility

Only futility I think you could be surprised with what a complete change in scenary or just coaches could do for him. He has had the same predictable OC for his whole time here, shoot Bob has been here since Lebeau was coach. Our passing combinations are the same as always and NEVER confuse anybody. When is the last time we have seen our passing routes, create a breakdown in the secondary with someone wide open? You see that for other teams but not here. Getting a new OC, and a new QB coach could really help IMO. Some people teaching him new things, and just having probably a better offensive system will help. They do need to draft one of those young QB's this year, and if they can't get Luck. Then they probably could get a guy like Lockard at the beginning of the 2nd round. See how Carson does with the new system, and this way the young QB can learn. Then if he is still struggling, then go with the young guy.
December 12, 201015 yr Come on man. The Steelers were not the normal Steelers last year. The OL was was than this year and they had no running game, on top of their defense not being healthy at all. 9 and 7 for the Steelers is like Duke or UK only winning 20 basketball games. Excellent post... :thumb:
December 12, 201015 yr Today's game doesn't change anything. Palmer has struggled. The WR's don't run good routes. When they do, Carson has missed throws. Bengals have fallen behind early in a lot of games and have been forced to throw. Opposing D's have unleashed pass rushers on the QB, and the O-line hasn't always held up well. When you combine the above, it looks horrible. More times than not, the public will put that blame on the QB. I'd be open to getting a new QB in Cincinnati, but that won't change anything. I totally agree with this. I'm done talking about Palmer. He has played poorly this year and he honestly hasn't been the same since his arm injury (I don't care if CCC calls this an excuse because it is a fact). I think he was really good with a chance to be great. Now I think he's above average in the right situation which isn't here. I could be way off, but it's my opinion. I think it's almost impossible to win as a QB if Mike Brown is your owner/GM. I really hope the Bengals go in a different direction and Palmer gets to go to a real NFL franchise. I hope he doesn't get stuck with the Raiders.
December 13, 201015 yr My bad, I forgot once again that all of us on here know more than NFL coaches. I forgot that we are able to see and know how things are after just seeing things live or maybe one replay. I forgot all of us on here know exactly the reads and ways plays are suppose to be done. Forgive me please for you being that QB genius apparently, and always breaking down films and seeing these things so you know how things are. These networks need to get rid of these ex NFL players and coaches, and hire some guys from on here. Who apparently can break down how things are suppose to be ran from seeing it live, and not having to break the film down. Yes I understand your opinion, and it is just that an opinion. You and many others on here share that OPINION, however I am just stating that there are people who share the same opinion as me. Guys who actually do watch these game tapes much more than us, and can come up with better opinions than any of us have. No, it's much simpler than that. They owe him a fortune, they have no other option behind him. None of which changes the fact that he has stunk and is a very large part of the Bengal demise this season. It doesn't take you, Cowher, me or the pope to opine about it. The numbers are what they are. On field performance doesn't lie. You can be a Carson apologist all you wish, it still doesn't change the fact he's been awful. Are there other issues for this team? Sure, injuries have depleted the defense especially. But Carson has continued to stink thru it all.

The Bengals have not been facing salary cap issues & the NFL is headed for no salary cap next year...
December 13, 201015 yr Are you serious? I mean you can continue to ignore the fact that NFL guys who actually break down the films of the games, are saying the same things as me. Or I guess should say saying the same excuses. However I mean if these things were not true, then why would they not say that. What reason would Cowher of had to even talk about it, he could have just sais man Palmer is really struggling this year. He had no reason to say what he did unless there was reason to say it. However Im sure as usual you will ignore that.. As for Bradford, come on man? Thats a bad example to use Bradford as a reason why a spread QB can do well in the NFL. Yes Bradford played in a spread offense, but it was a PASSING SPREAD OFFENSE. Most spread offenses in the NFL are more geared towards the run, and not passing. The offense Newton plays in is definitely a running spread offense. I am not saying he won't do good in the NFL because he has all the tools, and seems like he has a good head on his shoulders. However he does not play in a passing offense at all, so hard to tell how he would do under center, and having to pass more and not rely on his running ability. For Cowher and the other guys I admitted they had a point. But, it's TV they are not going to slam one individual for just playing badly (most of the time). What are they going to say, "Palmer sucks!"? Sure, the Bengals have problems and it hurts Carson, but Carson by himself is just as big a reason for the Bengals lack of success is any other part of their team. As for a passing spread, maybe that helps but it certainly didn't help Tim Couch, Colt Brennan, or other guys like that. My point was that NFL teams now work better with the QBs they get rather than just expecting them to instantly be able to adapt to a full pro-style. Which would have been 11 and 5 if they could have just beat the Bengals, like they usually do. So its not like they did anything different than normally, because they would have had about the same record as usual if they could just have beat the Bengals. So no they were not a bad team, they just couldn't beat the Bengals. Which the Bengals had a ton of injuries last year too, so that excuse is horrible. This year though the Steelers beat the Bengals both times, and will be around their normal record again. Okay man. You're the only person I've seen on this board that would say the Steelers of last year were their normal selves. I don't care if they won 17 games last years Steelers had more holes than any Steelers team I could remember.
December 13, 201015 yr Johnny Unitas, Joe Namath, Tom Brady, Joe Montana, etc. would suck if "Big Brat" were calling their predictable plays for them. Palmer isn't the same as before his injuries, but he's still in the upper echelon of NFL QB's. The line stinks, the receivers are all new other than Ocho-Mouth-O, and play calling is well.....predictable. What good is a high draft choice, their "scouts" (see friends or relatives of Mikey) wouldn't know a talented & motivated player if he came up and gave them an autograph. The Bengals are fighting the LA Clippers for worst "professional" sports' franchise of the last 20 years!!
December 13, 201015 yr The Bengals have good enough receivers to be better than they are. Gresham, Shipley. Owens and Chad are a pretty good bunch to throw to. IMO Carson looks at one receiver and thats it. If he is covered he throws it anyway. The defense sees where he is throwing and jumps the route. I don't know how many times this year watching replays, he throws to who he is looking at and there is another receiver wide open in the middle of the field he doesn't look at.
December 13, 201015 yr People keep saying that Carson costs too much money. Why? The Bengals have not been facing salary cap issues & the NFL is headed for no salary cap next year... Too much money? A. He is the third highest paid QB in the league. So OVERPAID B. The Bengals will not pay him 19 million next season and have a #1 draft pick salary for the same position. So it is highly unlikely they will draft a QB in the 1st round. C. No other team on the planet is stupid enough to take on his salary, so the Gals are stuck with Carson the Great.
December 13, 201015 yr Per Peter King's MMQB 5. I think I don't know how you could have an ounce of faith in Carson Palmer this morning, not after handing the Steelers two touchdowns on interception returns, and not after continually misfiring again. It might be time to deal him to San Francisco for a second-round pick in April, Mike Brown. Or a third-.
