January 5, 201115 yr Thats fine, explain the two picks from last Sunday. Here's my view. Bad throws into coverage. Shipley was surrounded by Ravens. The departure of the two best recievers will not take care of Palmers issues. Only he can do that. If he doesn't get it fixed, the Bengals are in a world of hurt for a long time. My opinion is people expect him to be 05 Palmer and he won't be that for whatever reason(s). Sure they could draft a Mallet in the second round and have him be a huge flop and then where are they? Mike and Mike had Marvin on today and he said Palmer will for sure be back and that he had some throws this year that he threw to spots receivers should have been, but they weren't there. Add him to the growing list of people putting part of the blame on the routes. I'm sure Marvin would know right? As far as this weeks picks. Do we really expect him to not throw any? He's not Brady. We need to let that go. The Manning brother's and Brees threw like 31 combined picks since Brady's last. INT's happen in the league espeically to not top 5 guys. Palmer isn't close to top 5 so he'll have some. Their best chance to compete next year and in the next few is to get other help. One more thing some people are hoping for Green from Georgia to be the top pick. If that happens who cares who the QB is? If this team continues to draft skill players at every position and doesn't try to improve both lines and the secondary every year they will continue this same path.
January 5, 201115 yr I cannot believe he(Clayton) thinks that Romo is an Elite qb!!! Then he must have Kitna ranked right next to Romo because their stats this year were pretty much the same.

But another part of that equation is Palmer has to play better.
January 5, 201115 yr To the bolded, I agree. But another part of that equation is Palmer has to play better. No question about it. Can he? I think so, but I'm not as convinced as I was in August. We shall see. I'd like to see them let Chad walk and not draft a WR in the first round, but who knows with these guys. Marvin said today that Chad is under contract for 11 and that's where that stands and they'll make a decision on TO in the next 6 weeks. They really have to bring in a veteran backup that's started a few years in the league too. I can't help but think another pair of eyes in meeting rooms not named Palmer could help. When CP goes to the sidelines his brother is there for advice. His brother can't help him as much as a Brunnell or Kitna type.

I'll go a step farther and question the QB coach. For one, I don't even know who that is. But I think a good QB coach would go a long way in helping Carson. As it stands now Carson is sort of on an island. The HC is defensive minded guy. The OC is a bafoon, don't know anything about the QB C, and to your point the backups can't help at all. Will any of this change?
January 5, 201115 yr Wrong we do. TJ in an interview a month or so ago said Chad freelances on routes. Lapham today on 1530 with Mo Egger said there were at least a few times this year Chad ran the wrong route because he thought the corner knew the play. Could care-a less what Lap has to say. He says this because he knows Chad is gone. If Carson was the one going, then he would be negative on Carson. Mike Brown should just give him a script of what he wants him to say and Lap will say it. Has no credibility IMO about the Bengals.
January 5, 201115 yr I cannot believe he(Clayton) thinks that Romo is an Elite qb!!! He basically put every good QB with any kind of a successful past in the elite category. But, I get it...I assume he didn't want to break it down into 5 or 6 categories. So, with 3 categories, I don't have a problem with the list.
January 5, 201115 yr So Clayton is saying Palmer is an average QB....Hmmm, I know I've heard that somewhere on here before....

Dave Lapham is one of the most knowledgeable & well-respected members of the Bengals' media.
