Carson Palmer

I surely do agree about the OC. I will add the HC and the owner. However none of them are throwing pick 6's at a record setting pace as the QB. I said it many moons ago, CP struggles at reading defenses, and making good dcecisions from his reads. Gonna take a heck of a coach to overcome that.

I agree they need all new coaches everywhere. However if they get an actual offensive guy in here, and I think they can do that. It has been shown that coaches can do that. That is something Vick struggled with, and didn't learn how to read defenses in Jail, but he finally got some good offensive coaches around him and now he is an MVP. I am not saying Palmer will be an MVP of the league, but at least good enough to win games with with the right coaches. However unless we fix other holes in the team, none of it matters.

Either way though I do agree they need to draft a young QB. If they can get luck, I really want them to trade down and then get Lockard in the 2nd round. I think he will fall to the 2nd round now.

Your whole comment about rebuilding through the draft is basically what they did under Marvin. You have seen what that has gotten the Bengals. I mean yes he is a great way to build a franchise, however unless you have smart football people doing it. Then it really don't matter, because in the end they will make the wrong choice on most of the players.

Umm.....then why did they draft guys like Chris Henry and Andre Smith? Why did they sign guys like Benson, T.O. (who hasn't been a problem for much of the season), Pacman, Tank, and any other talented but troubled player they could get for cheap?

Drafting well means getting character guys that are going to work hard for the organization. Signing well means getting guys that fit seamlessly into the fold, that also are good character guys. The Bengals have the talent to be a fringe playoff team, but they do not have the right players IMO. Start over, draft high character guys and sign guys with good reps even if they cost a little more or have a little less talent. If individual talent won Super Bowls the Patriots would never have won one, and the Colts would probably have 6 or 7 rings by now.

Not sure if has been stated on here or not, but how many years does Carson have left on his contract?

I hope they extend Carson honestly. I want to see him win an MVP here.

Best post of the thread...

No one is arguing with you on that, because that is a great way to build a team. However apparently your not listening, the team did try to build through the draft and it didn't do much. Its going to be those same guys making the decisions in the drafts still, so that is why we are saying that is a great idea. However no reason to think that they will do it that way.

No it's not the same thing because in the past they took risky guys. Take guys with less baggage, even if they have a little less talent. Totally different than what Cincy has done. It wouldn't take a rocket scientist or Bill Bellicheck to change the Bengals draft philosophy.

Trade Palmer and his brother to Oakland!

Not a big Dennis Jansen fan, but a decent article by him. Seriously, how stupid and silly was it for the Bengals to make Jordan Palmer the backup? He literally would not be on any other roster in the league except the 'Gals.

Shoulda kept former Georgetown QB Jeff Smith instead of Jordan Palmer .

If the offensive coordinator is to blame for Palmer's struggles how did he do so well in 2005 and 2006? After all, you said that the offensive system has been in place since 2001 so their offense shouldn't have been a suprise to anyone. The skill position players are comperable now to the ones on those teams. Palmer, however is no where near the player he was then. He is strictly average now.

I'm curious...so, do you think that someone new (espeically a rookie) would have greater success in this current system? I think any system, if you see it enough, becomes vulnerable to defenses...no matter who's at quarterback.

Here's how I explain it. A. The Bengals did nothing to improve their line from those teams, unless you consider not replacing Brahm or Anderson, letting Steinbach go, and extending Levi Jones as improving. B. Palmer looks like Drew Bledsoe. He's shell shocked. He appears to have no confidence in himself, or his line. He so often locks on to his first read presnap that he doesn't allow routes to develop. A lot of that has to do w/ the fact that he doesn't want to get sacked, the rest of it has to do w/ lack of confidence in his abilities to make other throws.

Your not getting it. Yes that is the smart thing to do, and that is why they could have done from the very beginning. We all know that is the smart thing to do. However you keep acting like after 20 years of doing things this way, that now the same people in charge are going to change how they do things. Yes that would be the smart thing to do, however not much reason to think that is what they are going to do.

What offense was they mainly using in 2005 and 2006. That is the no huddle offense, so the OC was not calling plays all the time like he basically has since 2007. Not to mention just think about that for a minute, they have used the same system since 2001, and this is the NFL. We haven't seen really anything different in the plays, so that is the problem right there. Teams now know how to defend it, and as players keep saying the Bengals don't make adjustments to it. In the NFL very few things will work year after year if you keep doing the exact same thing. Its saying something when us as fans know what the Bengals are doing everytime. So imagine actually getting to break down the films like other teams get to do.
