Carson Palmer

Your not getting it. Yes that is the smart thing to do, and that is why they could have done from the very beginning. We all know that is the smart thing to do. However you keep acting like after 20 years of doing things this way, that now the same people in charge are going to change how they do things. Yes that would be the smart thing to do, however not much reason to think that is what they are going to do.

I just don't think you can say that the Bengals have built smartly through the draft, which is what I propose. Stop taking guys like Akili Smith, Andre Smith, etc. who are not safe picks. I think a little effort would be all it would take for them to draft better, because they always seem to take guys with red flags who other teams have passsed on. JMO.

Like FC said everyone agrees with that except Mike Brown. The problem is Mike Brown is the only one making the decisions.

Here's how I explain it. A. The Bengals did nothing to improve their line from those teams, unless you consider not replacing Brahm or Anderson, letting Steinbach go, and extending Levi Jones as improving.

That's the main problem. The only 1st round pick on either line is Andre Smith and he didn't start very much and he sucks. Good teams win on the lines. Mike Brown still hasn't figured out that they got lucky that Pittsburgh was down last year and in 05 they were good because they had a very good O-line. Until he improves his lines they will continue to suck unless they get lucky every once in a while. I wouldn't count on getting lucky very often unless Big Ben lets little Ben make all of his decisions.

I am not sure what we are even debating here. I agree that they didn't build smartly though the draft, and if they were smart they would. However after 20 years of drafting like he has, why would Mike Brown change now? I mean hopefully he does, because building through the draft is the way to go. We just have no reason to believe that they will do it smartly.

IMO if they were smart then they should try to trade down and get more picks. Then take a talented but good character guy in the 1st round, hopefully on the offensive or defensive line. Then take a QB like a Lockard who probably will be there in the 2nd round, and just keep going from there. However I don't think it matters at all who they take if they keep most of these coaches, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Its just a bad system to be in here.

A source tells ESPN's James Walker that Bengals QB Carson Palmer will not take a pay cut this offseason to stay with the team.

Palmer is set to receive a base salary of $11.5 million in 2011, a number the Bengals would be hard pressed to pay after a lackluster 2010. With a possible new coaching regime and a top 5 draft pick on the horizon, the Bengals would be smart to clear house, starting with their underachieving quarterback. The former No. 1 overall pick may struggle to get another starting job if he's cut.

Well since Bill Cowher said It's not Palmers fault and he's still a great QB, I would think heads will roll at ESPN to print such blasphemy!!:lol::sssh:

First off ESPN is terrible. Secondly why would Palmer take a pay cut?

It would be great to see Carson go to another organization and have tremedous success. Either Bengal fans would have to admit that as long as Mike Brown stays at the top, NOTHING will change and adandon the team as fans, or simply make more excuses and blaming it on the players and coaches.

I read this morning that it's likely the Bengals will not have TO, Benson, and 85 next season. Palmer may be begging to move on.

And Cowher knows everything. I get it. Of course Palmer won't take a pay. I agree, why would he? As long as he doens't use a weapon, it won't be classified as armed robbery:cool:

No one takes on Palmer's overinflated salary. He would have to rework a deal with another team. Oh, this is where he would take a pay cut...

Well played sir...

With his salary right now you are right, no one would trade for him, because he is getting paid much more than he is worth now. However the Bengals actually can cut him I read, without it affecting their salary cap. I think it really will depend on who they hire as coach, and what he wants to do with him. They may want to keep him, and start fixing somewhere else in the first round, and then get a QB in the 2nd or third round. I think all this well depend on who is coaching the team next year. It will be interesting to see what all happens this off season.

I don't think he would be to upset with not having TO, or Chad. I think he would be more worried about not having Benson, than those guys. Palmer, TO, Chad, and the offensive coordinator all have been problems this year in the passing game.

I never said a word about Cowher. ESPN's coverage of stuff like this is terrible. They throw everything out and see what sticks. If someone is way better than them which happens in every sport every year they overpay to get them. If Schefter doesn't report it I don't listen to it unless it's Ed Werder about Brett Favre. If you're Plamer would you agree to a pay cut with this franchise? My guess is if the Bengals cut him he's take less from someone else and he will be happy as can be to be out of here.
