That's not entirely true. If you continually get beat up and continue to play the team that does the beating, 1 of 3 things can happen.

 

1. You can continue to get beat up

2. You can get better and start doing the beating

3. You can take your ball and go home and stop the beatings completely

 

Option 3 is exactly what Coach Mueller and the BlueBirds have chosen to do with Colerain. And that's ok, who can blame them? They aren't going to beat the Cardinals regardless of where the game is played and they need to focus on staying healthy and making their run at state championships.

So I guess now that mex posted that info, Trinity doesn't even need to send a scout to watch Ryle and needs no tapes, right? And I am sure Trinity doesn't have a scout or two that could figure things out for them in case they do decide to scout Ryle. :walk:

He probably was to some extent and I am being sarcastic in reply. But I will say this. Outside of some inside injury info, there is virtually nothing that could get posted on here that would have any impact on a game on Friday night.

Congrats go out to the Raiders on a hard palyed game. Your execution was very good and exposed some flaws in the Birds play. Thought the Birds did way to many things to cost them this game from the begining to the end. Poor decision on PAT and seemed to put them in a pickle the rest of the night. Birds defense needed to slow down a notch and see what was going on. Very little adjustments IMO. Over pursued their lanes, too many high body tackles or arm tackles that looked to hurt them and cost a lot of extra yardage after hits. Lots of body slammin and not wrapping up as well. Keep the faith and learn from this and now is the time to go 4-0 the rest of the way.

 

Again, KUDOS to the Raiders. All players mentioned earned them and can't take anything away from their effort. Keep it up boys and you will have a chance.

True. This year's team seems to find a way to win and seemingly play to the level of the competition in 5 of their wins (Campbell, Cooper, Dixie, SK and Highlands). The other 4 wins were convincing and never in doubt. It was an exciting night to be a Raider but you always look at what could have been done better. Lots of room for improvement and it will be good to have 2 starters returning for the playoffs. Depth is always very important to success. 9-1 would have to be the best regular season record ever in Union. The TV broadcast was great and all h.s. sports fans must appreciate guys like Brad, Lap and Jeff who help promote h.s. football with true high quality Thursday night football.

That's great for Ryle and IMO NKY football. Nice job Raiders!

What a ballgame !..................I enjoyed watching two very good football teams leave it on the field last nite. Great execution and game plan for Ryle, no excuses for HHS. Certainly there were plays, moments, injuries, home-field advantage, whatever....that's football folks. Bottom line great game and a ton of good sportmanship. My take aways include:

 

HHS hurt themselves with pre-snap penalties A LOT (it is part of their aggresive style but you can't get away w/it against ball-control offense.......got better in 2nd half)

HHS needs to get more running game established, if not, they are under-utilizing Corey Compton's potential contribution (more on that later)

HHS D hits hard and covers the perimeter very well.......again size & depth their achillies heel

Towles is a developing talent......nice game last nite, really showed leadership when game was getting away (for those that would like to see him "tougher", it comes with time....he is a puppy, when he is a senior he will play like a senior)

Seidl is pound for pound as tough as they come.........great game.

HHS D will need to tackle with their arms against straight up running teams, shoulder hits & diving at feet only works in open space

Blaming fumbles or missed conversions is a cop-out (making the first 2pt conv. would have made Mueller a genius!)

 

Ryle stayed w/game plan and executed all nite...Great win for the program, well deserved.

Nice line play........controlled the clock by controlling the line

Elliot is a true football player, tough as nails.

Hempel, Lonkard showed great heart & leadership (particularly w/Elliott out) Mullens got better as the game unfolded

Ryle deserves to be ranked #1 in NKY (for what its worth) that's what you get for challenging yourselves by taking on the best

 

From here..........HHS will have to take the lessons learned about stopping the run (gee, maybe that's why playing Ryle was a good decision!) . Certainly missing LBs (esp. Sullivan) hurts in games like these........something I kept thinking as I watched the game was maybe Compton should switch sides of the ball to make up for the loss at ILB. I know Dale's philosophy of two-way players,etc. and he is huge in springing yards by blocking in front of Towles but personally I would consider this option.........anyway I've never coached a State championship, just something to consider.

 

Again, great win Ryle............good luck to both teams in the playoffs.

I agree about Compton. If your not going to use him on offense let him play linebacker. The kid is way to talented not to be utilized.

WOW!!! Congrats to Ryle for a game plan that was well executed. They are legit. Have to admit, I was a little nervous on the drive to Union. Haven't had that feeling in awhile. Didn't like the feeling on the way home either. But you know what, the sun did come up today. Thank goodness!

 

Anyway, Birds need to focus on next week which I'm sure they are doing. The start of an undefeated post season and run that 4 year win/loss record to 58-2 and bring home #20. Go Birds! 20n10!!!

Not sure if it's been mentioned or not, but Ryle (with the win) becomes just the 2nd NKY team (not named Covcath) to beat the Birds since 2002.

 

What a run. 8 years, and only 3 nky teams have beat the team from Ft. Thomas.
