This was a great game and very physical. I think Ryle was more physical and controlled both lines of scrimage. They obviously executed their game plan better as evidence by the T.O.P. The Ryle staff had in a good game plan and had their kids prepared for the rematch so Kudos to them. It is also a testimate to the HHS team and coaches that while they were being controlled and in a situation they're not accustomed to they still fought to the end and were a two point conversion away from evening up the game. A great high school football game with NKY's two best teams. I hope we see them both bring home state championships this year because each are very good. Good job to both teams and hope both get healthy soon.

Congratulations to Ryle, and my condolences for all my HHS friends on the ending of the streak. Very entertaining game to watch, even though I only caught the 2nd half. When Ryle scored with about 9 mins to go to go up 28-12, I told my wife "Highlands will still win this one, lets see how they respond". They didn't quite make it, but it was a great effort.

 

I was impressed with both quarterbacks and I wish I had seen Elliott at full strength. You could tell HHS had some inexperience in there on D, they were overpursuing and Ryle was using that against them with the ball fake. Give Hempel credit for making those reads. Ryle's OL did a good job, saw some great trap blocking on a couple of Hempel's long runs.

 

Both these teams will be fine for the playoffs, it should be a lot of fun to see how they progress from here.

 

Kudos to Dale and the HHS staff. The post game camera stayed on him and he personally congratulated each member of the Ryle team. A lot of coaches will shake the opposing head coach's hand and scram, but he made a point to work his way all the way through the line shaking players hands and offering congrats. That impressed me and is just another example of doing the little things right that HHS seems to always do. :thumb:

 

On a side note, are there any HHS faithful making the trip to Paintsville tonight for the Johnson Central - Belfry game?

Ryle won and should be number one every HS team is banged up this time of year stop making excuses for the loss. Champions overcome it. Take the loss in stride. Ryle was the better team. Congrats Ryle.

 

With Dale at the helm, no excuses will be made, except by BGP posters... As he said after the game, Highlands plays for state championships, and #20 is 5 wins away. Great win for Ryle last night.

Ryle was clearly the better team last night. They have progressed while, it seems, that the Birds have regressed due to some key injuries. But injuries do not account for the penalties, dropped balls and decisions on extra points that came from the sidelines. Congrats to the Raiders and good luck to them in the playoffs!!!!

Whackem'n'Stackem' I saw JC play this year. They aren't anywhere close to Ryle.

You are absoultuely correct this is not the same Highlands D as in the 1st matchup. Personnel has been moved around due to key injuries and it has been showing ever since then. PERIOD end of sentence. But at the end of the day you have to deal with what ya got and do the best you can with what ya got. No excuses here though Ryle took advantage and got the job done. Birds will learn and get ready for their run to number 20.

 

Guys, Ryle had some key injuries on defense as well w/ a couple of players lost for the season. The fact is that Highlands played too fast and Ryle was more than happy to push them whatever way they wanted to go, creating great lanes for Elliot and Hempel. I don't know anything about their defensive structure, but from my vantage point they were over pursuing and Ryle's coaching staff did a great job taking advantage of it. Highlands offense also paid the price last night for not having developed an intermediate passing game. All teams have injuries, but you still have to play under control w/ who you have.
