A bit disappointed, a bit relieved, a bit concerned and a lot proud!

 

First, congratulations to the Raiders. They beat the Birds in every phase of the game except possibly special teams. They controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides, they had a great game plan, they played smart, disciplined football and they and their fans had great enthusiasm. A winning formula and one that can take them well into the playoffs if they maintain it. Good luck!

 

Birds-thank you for a great run! It's been a lot of fun but now the second season starts. Remember how you're feeling tonight and use that as motivation for the rest of the year. Let's go get number 20!

Both teams were delivering some blows but it was obvious that Ryle was controlling the line of scrimmage and running downhill all night long. Hempel and Elliot as well as Mullins took some shots but showed their true grit by getting right back up and Elliot by coming back in the game. If they can get Mullins/Hempel and Elliot running like that and get Lonkard catching passes they can advance in the playoffs. Controlling the clock with that rushing game is key as it was tonight.

Both teams had players out with injuries ,key players. I'm sure they were playing their hearts out while getting those injuries ,and I'm sure that they were disappointed they couldn't play tonight. There were lots of injuries in tonights game , but the hearts and guts these players showed was just tremendus. How many injured players came back into the game to finish the game ? I would name them but I'm afraid I would leave someone out.

 

Birds just need to get back to business and work hard on the basics. It's hard to win games by missing tackles , dropping passes and penaltys. Just focus on #20 .

 

Sure I'm disappointed about the loss , but I'm more disappointed in some of the Bluebird faithful posting in the up-date thread. Late in the game , when things were not looking good , SOME SHOWED THEIR TRUE COLORS ! (I'm done !)

Said in the prediction thread it would be the most important game of the year to Ryle, they sure played that way.

SK is playing alot better than 3 weeks ago. SK's defense is alot more physical than Highlands now I know why SK won't play Highlands it would be an easy win for SK.

 

THIS and only THIS year would this be a game. SK is going back to being old SK next year.

Highlands D showed it's true colors tonight. They were amazing apart from out of the ordinary penalties. Time to look in the mirror. Ryle barely

beat a terribly banged up Bluebird team tonight. This is not the same team as in week 1. We all hope that they can make do with what they have left in the tank and salvage another title. Go Birds, I still support your effort tonight!!!!!

Congrats to Ryle, great win for their program. Hempel is a stud and was the difference in this game. Remember Highlands fans, Dales and his Birds are not measured by undefeated seasons but for State Championships. This will hopefully be the game that gets them refocused for the next 5. Ryle deserved this win by all accounts and they were the better team tonite. Go Birds 20n10

Again, not making excuses for Highlands but can you honestly say not having your two stud lb'ers doesn't hurt against a team like Ryle?

 

Come on SF, I know you're better than that. Take Baldwin and Lockard away from Sk and Ryle runs all over them too.

Interesting. I went back through all your posts in this thread and can't find the one where you congratulated Ryle on a well-played game and for being the better team tonight. Lots and lots of excuses and reminders about injuries and what could have/should have been and that Ryle's win essentially deserves an asterisk. I guess in response to the above bolded remark I could say that the Bluebirds failed to beat a terribly banged up Ryle team. But I won't.

 

It was a great game between two very good football teams. If they played tomorrow night, maybe Highlands would win. But tonight Ryle was better. Give them credit.

It was a bang bang play on TV but your right he lost possession of the ball. It almost seemed like if he would have had a grip on the threads it wouldnt have happened but it looked like he gripped the ball on the bottom side. Anybody else see that?

You are absoultuely correct this is not the same Highlands D as in the 1st matchup. Personnel has been moved around due to key injuries and it has been showing ever since then. PERIOD end of sentence. But at the end of the day you have to deal with what ya got and do the best you can with what ya got. No excuses here though Ryle took advantage and got the job done. Birds will learn and get ready for their run to number 20.

Congrats to Court Mace for setting the career tackles record at Ryle. Tough kid.

 

Congrats indeed I've got to know him personally the past few years and as great a person as he is a player. Comes from a long line of good football players at Ryle. Congrats Court!

Ryle is definately good enough to beat ST X and then go battle T for a State Title. I truly believe if Ryle brings the intensity the rest of the way out and plays up to their capabilities then yes they could pull the upset in Bowling Green as well. This would not surprise me one bit if this happened. Anyone else?
