A bit disappointed, a bit relieved, a bit concerned and a lot proud!

 

First, congratulations to the Raiders. They beat the Birds in every phase of the game except possibly special teams. They controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides, they had a great game plan, they played smart, disciplined football and they and their fans had great enthusiasm. A winning formula and one that can take them well into the playoffs if they maintain it. Good luck!

Not if they (Ryle) play the way they played tonight they won't.

 

SK is playing alot better than 3 weeks ago. SK's defense is alot more physical than Highlands now I know why SK won't play Highlands it would be an easy win for SK.

Ryle was very disappointed to give up the opening kick return. That was bad. But those kids do not hang heads or get down. They figure out how to win. I've never seen so many injuries on a team as what Ryle has endured this year. I guess the Birds are feeling some of that injury bug, too. Two fine teams. Ryle was more disciplined at the line of scrimmage as the Birds jumped on numerous occasions. That, too, was a big difference in the game. Kudos to the Raider players and coaching staffs. You just beat the King of the Hill in NKY and it was not a lucky win by any means (except in the mind of that one SK dude). On to the playoffs for two very fine teams.

Since I'm not sure if the guy in the Highlands section that was losing his mind is a BGPer I'll go ahead and ask the question he seemed to have all night.

 

What is the rule regarding playing music on the PA while a team is in formation? Too many times tonight the Ryle PA guy was playing music while Highlands was calling signals. While I doubt it had any impact on the play it sure looks bad on Ryle's part. Ixne that, Ryle.

 

I know the guy well. He's not doing it intentionally to screw them up, I promise you. Not saying I don't agree with what you're saying, only that I'm 100% certain it isn't a cheap effort to distract the opponent.

One other big thing was on Highlands first kickoff the 15 yard penalty. and of course the offsides.

 

Yes, the defensive penalties killed them as evidenced by the time of possession. Looking at this game, it was the perfect storm for the Birds. "stuff happens"

GREAT GAME FOR BOTH TEAMS. What a treat watch. And the Highlands players handled the defeat with much class. I was told that while the Ryle students rushed the field and disrupted the end of game congratulations, all Highlands players patiently waited and told the Raiders to go win state once the handshakes continued. CLASS ACT, Highlands.

Another lucky win by Ryle. They will run out of luck come playoff time!

Things I took away from this game

 

1. Hempel is a great player and true leader. He definitely willed that team to victory and called his own number on that final 4th down to seal it.

2. Towles has a gun for an arm and didnt get much help tonight from his receivers. He is also a great runner who got the Birds back in the game.

3. Elliot is a warrior who makes no bones about wanting to smack you in the mouth while running the ball.

4. Warner called a great game and won the coaching battle.

5. Highlands looks very thin on the defensive side of the ball. I mean thin as in literally thin. They have tons of speed but not a lot of muscle to stop the run.

6. Birds had to chase points all night after they missed the first conversion and Ryle marched down the field scoring to take the lead.

7. Lonkard made the catch of the year IMO.....WOW

8. Gold made an awesome KO return to open the game, dropped some big balls but then redeemed himself late in the game before getting hurt. He is a gamer.

9. Seildl was laying the wood all night before he was injured.

10. Ryle deserved the victory tonight no matter how you wanna spin it.

 

oh and the penalties in the first half gave Ryle extra yardage they certainly used to march down and score their 2nd touchdown.

 

IMO, #9 was the problem for the Birds tonight. The LB's and defensive front, being shorthanded, did not make the plays they needed to. It is never a good stat when your safety is making all the tackles that Seidl made tonight. He was a warrior tonight.

I think it's good for NKY that the streak is over. It's not good to have ONE dominant team.

The game i watched Ryle barely won. Highlands is Clearly not as physical as SK.
