It will be very interesting to see how HHS and Ryle do in the playoffs this year.

Things to ponder about this game:

 

1. The Elliott fumble inside the 40.

2. Time of possession

3. Seidl goes out and Hempel scores on the next play

4. Highlands running game apart from Towles.

5. Towles loses the handle inches away from tying the game.

6. Highlands is still the best of the best.

7. The score is not indicative of just how tough the Highlands D really is....

8. Injuries to key D players

9. Hindsight; stick to field goals.

10. Highlands has been spanking NKY teams for several years now...It had to end sometime.

 

Is anyone going to mention why he fumbled?? Hempel stuck him, short of the line for the two point conversion.

One other big thing was on Highlands first kickoff the 15 yard penalty. and of course the offsides.

I understand what you're saying and I absolutely think Lawrence is a terrific player and QB. Offensive MVP in NKY. However, he gets far more rushing opportunities than Hempel because SK has no other options. If Hempel got the same opportunties to be practically a one-man rushing show, his numbers would surpass Lawrence.

 

I don't want to change the topic of this thread so this is my last post on the subject, all I'll say is this. If Hempel doesn't have a RB like Elliot to keep defenses MORE THAN HONEST, and at times keying on Elliot alone, then I don't think he'd have quite as many plays where the first hit on him isn't made til 5-10 yards past the line of scrimage. Regardless of all that Ryle has a very affective rushing attack and if they can just incorporate the pass a little bit more then they'll have a great shot at advancing to the finals this year.

With the inexperience at WR I still don't understand why Abner/Bruns never got factored into any WR sets. Two very good athletes with size.

Things I took away from this game

 

1. Hempel is a great player and true leader. He definitely willed that team to victory and called his own number on that final 4th down to seal it.

2. Towles has a gun for an arm and didnt get much help tonight from his receivers. He is also a great runner who got the Birds back in the game.

3. Elliot is a warrior who makes no bones about wanting to smack you in the mouth while running the ball.

4. Warner called a great game and won the coaching battle.

5. Highlands looks very thin on the defensive side of the ball. I mean thin as in literally thin. They have tons of speed but not a lot of muscle to stop the run.

6. Birds had to chase points all night after they missed the first conversion and Ryle marched down the field scoring to take the lead.

7. Lonkard made the catch of the year IMO.....WOW

8. Gold made an awesome KO return to open the game, dropped some big balls but then redeemed himself late in the game before getting hurt. He is a gamer.

9. Seildl was laying the wood all night before he was injured.

10. Ryle deserved the victory tonight no matter how you wanna spin it.

 

oh and the penalties in the first half gave Ryle extra yardage they certainly used to march down and score their 2nd touchdown.

I should have mentioned how impressed I was with Seidl. Great tackler.

Ryle was better tonight. HHS heal quickly and go get number 20. SK see what happens when you step up. Ryle earns respect from the bluebird faithful.
