I would be disappointed, but all this talk of religion would be out the door with this question. If there was ever school on Dec. 25 there would be so many kids absent that the schools would lose a BUNCH of money.

Separation of Church and State. Schools should observe no religions holidays IMO. Students should be able to worship the way their religion calls for, but I don't think any specific religion should be put above another at school functions.

 

And to be honest Muslims are really pushing the limits of the rest of America's tolerance IMO.

Not to be jumping in on Plato here, but I believe that some state funding is wrapped around attendance.

If it means we get out more days of school, I'm all for it.

If a group wants a school to celebrate their specific religious holiday, said group has every right to start a private school or home school their children. I hear there's a great lot close to ground zero that would be perfect for a private school.

The bolded portion to me should include Christians therefore meaning public schools should not be closed just because it is Christmas.

I think they lose money in the cafeteria as well, but not real sure how that all works.

The formula for state funding is based on attendance. That formula drives a lot of decisions in schools.

Coming to this thread late and don't feel like reading it all, but I don't believe schools should observe Muslim holidays. Use them as an opportunity to teach? Yes. Make a lesson plan about it? Sure. But calling off school for it? Nope. It would be opening Pandora's box and all of a sudden you've got Zoastrians wanting their holidays off. Just won't fly.

Funny indeed, :lol: but the fact remains that it is officially called a "Winter Break" in Campbell, Boone and Kenton Counties. At least in the larger Counties you have to follow PC or you will be sued and then forced to follow PC anyway.

 

It is indeed a PC world and even the small towns, and counties will soon be forced to follow, or face lawsuits. If it hasn't happened yet, it will sooner than later and honestly it is a shame!

 

BTW the only reason I knew this, was I work at a Community Rehabilitation Center and have some HS students who attend the County Schools in the area and I had to read their Calenders to find out when the school buses would and wouldn't be bringing them to us!

 

What does it truly matter what it is called on a piece of paper? Did you ask the students what they call it?
