Owsley took a lot of unnecessary threes,especially considering Reed was hot as a pistol. The press bothered them and,as Master of the Hardwood pointed out,they spent too much time trying to dribble through it. The score really didn't reflect the effort..about a 10-12 point game,really,but hats off to Estill. They have a fine team and anyone who overlooks them is going to get beaten. Congrats on a fine win!

In the early '80's,I umpired HS baseball..I think anyone who umpires has a situational decision that they second guess themselves on from time to time. I thought I would make use of this forum and pass mine along and get some input. The rules say that a runner coming in contact with a batted ball is out due to interference...this situation came up in a game: With a runner on second and two out,a batter hit a grounder to the shortstop..the ball carromed off the shortstop's glove and THEN hit the runner,who never stopped and advanced to third. I made the ruling that since the shortstop had a chance to make a play BEFORE the ball hit the runner,no interference occured and I allowed the runner the base.I consulted with the other umpires,who could see no fault with my reasoning, then spent 10 minutes in an argument with the defensive coach (whose team went on to lose the game),but stood my ground. Did I make the right call? It has often come to mind since. Thanks

It does...just like the appeal on a runner missing the bag.

It's a game...teach these kids the fundamentals..base running,hitting the cut-of man,who covers 2nd depending on whether a right or lefty is up,how to hit to the right side with a runner on 2nd or 2nd and 3rd,etc,etc... But MOST IMPORTANTLY...HAVE FUN...the teams who have the mot succes are sound in fundamentals,are close friends and understand how to have fun!! Again..IT'S A GAME..not life or death!

The umpire can make NO call on a missed base without an appeal..and that appeal must come BEFORE the next pitch is thrown!!!

I know that was a bad situation ,,(I saw it), but the same argument could have been made had the runner been holding the loosened base 3 or 4 feet from where it should have been (you're still in contact with the base,but the base is 3 or 4 feet from where it should have been..). It was a bad situation,but a call has to be made. I'm not sure that equipment interference applies here. Tough call!!

Excuse me for probably being ignorant of the rules as they may be today (I umpired many years ago),but if the runner on first started running into right field with 2nd base open,isn't he out for being out of the baseline???

Yes it does..is the grain pushing away from the break...is the water on the opposite side of the break..how wet is the green..how DRY is the green...are you a stroke down with money on a 3 footer..and on and on..LOL..I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!

Just ONCE...I would like to see a 14th region ref call an illegal pick!! Just once!!!

To me...and Prof...you know how I hate a 2nd shot across water.... #1 is the hardest hole on the course...I hope to PAR it before our trip to MB in October!!LOL!!
