Should U.S. Schools Observe Muslim Holidays?

Featured Replies

This debate is becoming a hot topic in the U.S. They are setting up their Mosques and now want Muslim Holidays observed in public schools. They also want special treatment for sporting events to not conflict with their holidays. Funny how Christians can't even pray in a team huddle or locker room, but communities will bend over backwards to make sure the Muslim community is not offended. Wow.........

There's a difference between closing the school for a day or not having tests scheduled vs practicing one's faith with guidance from the school.

What Christian holidays do we not close school for?

The challenge is the issue of "where does it end" or "how far do we go?" Explain to a Muslim why school is closed on Christmas but not a Muslim holy day. How do you rationalize it?

Who was it that said that in a few years we won't recognize our own country..

Same people so said it when we gave blacks rights.

I didn't think we closed school for Christmas? I thought it was just a nice Winter break for students?

Next they are going to want us to allow Sharia Law...oh wait, some already do.

Seriously? If Christmas is on a Friday schools will go to school upto Tuesday or Wednesday. If it was truly for a "winter break" wouldn't they go the entire week?

This is silly.

Nope... The person I'm thinking of was not born yet.. Or at least very young then...
This is silly.
Not according to some judges...

So you're saying you believe some judges are considering making Sharia law the law of the land?

Can you give me some examples?

Sorry, didn't put a smiley, but there was sarcasm there. However, if we are being PC, like many on this forum are...it is technically no longer Christmas break, it is winter break. UKMF will back me up on this.

Not silly, considering that the Iman who is tied to the potential WC Mosque has made such statements. Saw it on the news last night. I would also consider him a leader to Muslims in America.

Since I think all education should be handled at the local level let each district decide. If they have a large Muslim population, why not? If it's in the 3% range they mentioned in the article then no.

So if I make statements about how the law SHOULD be the SC is going to agree? Who gives a darn what one person says about what the laws of the country should be? That conversation happens thousands of times every day.

Overall, I agree. However, I don't even think the % matters. Let each district decide regardless of their rationale.
