It's been on Mall Road doing business as the Mercy Foundation. Interesting to note that on their website, the words Mercy Foundation could not be found anywhere. I wonder if their new Mosque will have signage with the name Mercy Foundation or have Arabic wording on the outside? I am just confused on how anyone could support any place of worship that harbors hatred toward the very people that allowed them to build it. Their treatment of women is deplorable as well. Looks to me like we have some here on BGP that work for the ACLU. I wonder how many of you that have no problem with this mosque would feel if you had a son, daughter, or spouse sitting at their desk in the World Trade Center when the worst attack on American soil took place? What if it was your son, daughter, or spouse who jumped to their death from 80 stories in the air? Well, guess what.................the people who will worship in this Mosque share the same belief system of the people who committed this egregious act of hatred on the American people.

 

Wow, this post has so much misguided hate and logic in it I have no idea where to begin.

 

1) You do realize that not all Muslims are terrorists, right? Just like all Christians don't want to bomb abortion clinics. If you can't grasp that, then you're blinded by intolerance and hate, and it's pointless having this discussion.

 

2) You do realize that this country was founded as a religiously tolerant state, that allows all people the freedom and right to practice whatever, if any, religion they desire, right?

 

3) Your sentiments regarding "us" allowing "other cultures in "our" country" lead me to believe you have no tolerance for anyone who is of a differing descent or belief system. This goes against everything our country was founded upon, and is truly sad if the case.

 

4) Many Muslims have genuine love, respect, and admiration for not only America, but the American way of life and American people. That is why the majority of them have lived here their entire lives, yes it's possible for a person to be a natural American citizen and be Muslim, or have immigrated to this country. Let me repeat that, many, nay I'll say most, Muslims living in this country do not harbour hatred for America.

I pray to God and read the Bible. I consider myself to have a different set of beliefs than those wackadoos who protest at funerals, who kill a doctor inside a church, and beat gay people for their lifestyle. I don't believe that bombing a Protestant business in Northern Ireland is acceptable because I'm Catholic. I guess there are all kinds in all different religions.

Catholics, Baptists and Jehovah Witnesses all pray to Yahweh/Jehovah God. They have the Bible as their authoritative word from God. But beyond that you can say they don't agree a whole lot. Bad point to raise IMO when Christianity has even more divergent groups within its system than Islam.

I can tell you this...I have a family friend who died on September 11 at the World Trade Center. His name is Brain Williams. I regret and mourn his loss - often, and I do have a hard time not questioning the motives of those who want to build the mosque at Ground Zero. Still, it is within their legal rights to build it. Once we set a precedent of preventing people from exercising their legal rights based on questionable taste or tact, then we are beginning down a very dangerous and slippery road that I have no interest in seeing our country walk down.

 

As for people who "share the same belief system {with} people who committed this egregious act of hatred"...I am a devout Catholic. The Catholic Church has had occasions in its history that, although they weren't necessarily outright "hateful", have been every bit as egregious and deplorable as the September 11th attacks, in my opinion - the Spanish Inquisition and the recent clergy abuse scandals come to mind. I regret these things deeply, to the point that I am reticent to mention them in this post. But still, I know that the terrible acts involved in both of those "scandals" only represent the acts of a mere fraction of a fraction of the estimated 1.1 billion Catholics in the world. They are not my actions, nor do I condone them, nor do the vast VAST majority of Catholics.

 

True, I have no idea which Islamic sects are militant, and yes, I know Islam's beliefs seem to many to be more zealous than those of Christians, but I do not believe that every Muslim in the world clapped their hands and praised Allah on September 11th. Just because someone is Muslim doesn't mean they want America to burn.

I would like to know who/how this is being funded. I really wish this could go to the voters of the community. They were already run out of the Mt. Zion area a few years ago. Wonder why? I believe the GZ location also has funding issues/questions?? Why can't these people just move to Dearborn, MI? They already have their own community set up. Just hard for me to endorse a religion that likes to harm innocent American people.

I don't believe there should be one built near ground zero. I also believe that when we go to war with countres-Iraq and Afghanastan-currently-that we blow the crap out of them and let them rebuild their country themselves. No nation building. No building building. No more money for Pakistan if they are harboring terrorists. The USA's lack of providing money will quickly get their attention. Concentrate on the USA, and when we get ourselves figured out-help others, not until.

Denying people to build a mosque is going to do what to main stream Muslims? It only shows hostility towards their faith and makes a situation worse. Some people forget, or want to forget, that the Muslims who have harmed people with attacks such as 9-11 are extremists! They do not reflect on the majority of a religion, any religion!
