Mosque proposal for Florence, Kentucky criticized

And honestly, I can characterize it that way if I was fighting this war on terror over there, as I'm sure many do. In my mind, it's better I make a mistake and kill someone (who knows their intention), than me think everyone is friendly and get shot in the back as I walk by.

Is that wrong? Maybe. I'm I right? I my mind, I am. Thankfully what I thinkdoesn't matter. But, as someone else has stated a couple of days ago in this forum somewhere, I'm not going to act and think differently because some think that "I'm wrong". That's the way I feel about it.

So, not trying to put words in your mouth, but trying to understand....You feel a mosque in NKY is going to lead to terrorist attacks?

The difference is "over there", the 14 year olds are killing because they are taught they are should through their religion (granted, maybe taught by extremists". And you know I was talking about the targeting of American soldiers.

The 14 year olds over here are being taught to do so for a variety of reasons, and aren't targeting a specific group of people, besides each other maybe.

What of kids being raised by the Aryan Brotherhood, members of the KKK or any other domestic terrorist group?

I didn't say that at all. I'm pretty sure I was still in the "over there" part of the discussion. But, can you say that a mosque in NKY definitely wouldn't lead to terrorist attacks? Will it lead too, probably not. Is there a possibily? Maybe a small one. Didn't someone post on here about a group of potential terrorists already being caught in Florence recently?

Don't hear as much about them...are they attacking American soliders? Because I was talking about American soliders and young muslims. I wasn't talking about the Aryan Brotherhood, KKK, or anything else. And I'm not as familiar with members of the Aryan Brotherhood, but don't they do most of their recruiting from the prison system and not adolscents? That's what all those "Locked Up" shows lead you to believe.

People don't want to take the stance because they don't want to be the "bad guy" of the forums...but what if you simply don't want a mosque in your community because you don't want it there? You don't feel comfortable about it? Whatever reason you want, you shouldn't have to justify it if you don't want to.

Many would say, that's prejudice and it is, but I am sure that's how many who oppose feel. Many on here say they are wrong, but don't they have the "right" to feel that way if these please? They also have the right to protest it, for whatever reason the want.

If they legitimately own the property, there are no zoning issues, then they should be able to build. However, the mosque in NYC is a different tale. I think that it conjures up too many painful memories of 9/11. If they want to endear themselves to Americans they should build elsewhere in the city. Notice I said build elsewhere---- not ever build. If we deny them freedom of religion it won't be long before the next Baptist, or whatever denomination's house of worship is denied their freedoms. I absolutely abhor the teachings of Islam and they hate Americans and think we are Satan but according to the Constitution they have a right to build. Choosing to build a mosque so near the twin towers in NYC however, is ill advised and in poor taste. JMHO

I don't think that anyone is saying that they don't have the "right" to feel how they do. Others, likewise, have the "right" to think that they are wrong for how they feel. Even the KKK has a "right" to their stupid activities. Remember this? "I may disagree with what you say, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it?"

Legally, there is no reason why the building should not be built. To try to make it otherwise, as in the NYC case, puts us on a very slippery slope of religious intolerance. Which religion is next?

Yeah, you are right. It is definitely a slippery slope. Islam is just something I'm not comfortable with personally, and I admit that I don't know enough about it. But at the same time, I don't want to know more about it.

My younger brother, who is much smarter than I and who has actually done a fair amount of research on similar topics would argue that America/the world would be much better if we removed all religion in every capacity. He makes a powerful arguement, not that I fully agree.

So, Muslim Americans hate themselves?

If a Muslim follows the Quaran and practices Islam, yes. I probably should have said Christians rather than Americans. But the U.S. (Americans) represent Christianity and they HATE us. They are commanded to kill the infidel and that is what we are to them.

MJ, it was actually Burlington, KY where the terrorists were caught. Please see an excerpt below from an ABC News article about the round up. If they are living here, we might as well make them feel comfortable by providing them a place to worship and pray that their next act of terrorism will be successful. Let's make it easy on em.

Raids in Paris, London, Burlington, Ky.

In pre-dawn raids, French police arrested seven people outside Paris in connection with the investigation into last week's attacks.

French authorities are probing a possible plot to attack the American embassy in Paris.

The seven individuals taken into custody are believed to have connections to an Algerian man arrested in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, in July, who has ties to Osama bin Laden, the Afghanistan-based terrorist whom President Bush has called a "prime suspect" in the Sept. 11 attacks.

The global dragnet also snared four men and one woman in London.

Scotland Yard announced that the suspects were arrested "in connection with the World Trade Center terrorist attack and are being questioned by Anti-Terrorist Branch officers."

The BBC's Caroline Thomsett reports that police raided a West London address at 3 a.m. this morning, arresting a 27-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman. At a separate address, around the same time, a 29-year-old was arrested. And then, at 7 p.m. this evening, a third man was arrested in Birmingham.

Back in the United States, the FBI today raided a home in Burlington, Ky., detaining about 20 people in connection with the deadly suicide hijacking raids.

Details are sketchy at this hour, but law enforcement sources said at least one of the hijackers lived in the Burlington area.

I disagree. He says "kill first ask questions later". That, to me, says before you've determined you've even got the right agressors, you go with your knee-jerk reaction. In another post, maybe this thread, maybe the other one, he says that we shouldn't worry about killing innocents. In essence, that's exactly the process that terrorists take.

Freedom without the defense mechanism to defend yourself is not freedom.

I sometimes think RM you just disagree to be disagreable. That or they grow some fine vegetables in your part of the bluegrass....:D

I menionted that as well earlier, but there wasn't much of a response. Thank you for posting again.

So are we saying that because some Muslim Americans have committed crimes or were caught prior to committing serious crimes that we shouldn't allow the rest of the Muslim Americans to have a place of worship?

The very book (Koran) they worship from dictates hatred and violence. How in the world could anyone embrace those beliefs? Personally, that's where I draw the line. By letting them build a house to worship, it's like non-Muslim Americans are endorsing their deplorable beliefs regarding hurting fellow human beings because of where they come from (Westerners).

Why do we refer to them as Muslim Americans, while everyone else is referred to as the country or continent that they come from?

African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, and etc.?

I disagree with your assumption that we are endorsing their beliefs. We ARE saying you're free to believe what you wish.
