I think if the Reds would have gotten Lee they could have won it all. Now I think they are in for the fight oftheir lives because of St Louis 1-2 punch on the mound.

 

I don't know that I can go that far ... win it all. This series shows that the Reds' hitters are going to struggle against the tough pitchers and when you get to the playoffs, everyone has a couple of top notch pitchers.

I think the breakdown of the Reds record really shows that: 18 games above .500 against the dregs of the NL Central, 5 games below .500 against everyone else. They've built their record by beating up on bad teams and struggle against good teams. The have a solid nucleus and should be a threat for the next several years but I think this year they are a good team that is more a product of a poor division than really being a serious World Series contender.

I don't know if making the World Series even if they had landed Lee would have been realistic, but it certainly would have greatly improved their chances of making the post season.

The Cardinals answered that with a big "!!!" Reds have some work to do. I'd say they learned alot about themselves the past three games. I don't think we'll get swept in St. Louis but definetly got an attitude adjustment in this series.

I totally agree that making the playoffs is great this year. Anybody in the plyoffs has a shot. With Lee as their number one I don't think it's unrealistic that they couldn't win it. They've gotten this far without an ace. With one who knows.

One thing is certain. Come playoff time, the 1-2 punch of Carpenter and Wainright will be a daunting task for any club. The Ludwig trade was an eye opener but Jay can really play, seems like he hits a double every game.

I am not a Dusty fan at all, but man he gets a bad rap on here. He does have the team in second place, and if you would have said at the beginning of the season that on August 12, 2010 the Reds would be in second place one game behind ST. L, I would have said "no way".
