August 9, 201016 yr Throughout a 162 game season, I'll take the Reds. In a best of 5 or 7 series, I'll take the Cards. Carpenter & Wainwright are just too good.

I don't believe the Cards have had anywhere close to the same success against the rest of the Central.

They are 29-11 against the Cubs, Astros, Pirates and Brewers and 35-40 against the rest of baseball. The have 24 games left against the NL Central and only 3 of those are against the Cardinals.

I really expected the Rednecks to fall off at some point in the season and they might still but they have not yet and reguardless of the outcome you redneck fans have had a good run that might get better or might get worse still a great run compared to the recent anyway

August 11, 201016 yr St. Louis is 10-5 against the Reds this year winning 4 of 5 series, and just finished sweeping the Reds at GABP. Their schedule is as easy as the Reds the rest of the way. They don't travel any further than Houston the rest of the way. They have 25 games at home and 29 against the NL Central, whom they have killed. They have Wainwright, Carpenter, Garcia and Westbrook, and are getting Lohse back on Sunday. They have more experience and don't have a second basebal mouthing off and then going 2-14 at the plate. Advantage Cardinals!
August 11, 201016 yr The Reds also have 13 games yet to play on the west coast. How they fare on those two trips will determine their season IMO. I agree with you LRCW. It would have been nice if that wasn't the case, but I'm afraid that it is. I really hope they step up.
August 11, 201016 yr I agree with several of the posters above. Carpenter and Wainwright make the Cards formidable in a head up series. The Reds lack of a shut down #1 starter makes them vulnerable in the playoffs. But the Reds have a better pitching staff from top to bottom than the Cards and the Reds' soft schedule the rest of the way could lead them to the division title. I think this series proved why the Reds need Cliff Lee. This series also proved that the superstars win titles - Pujols, Carpenter, Wainwright and to some extent Holliday on the Cards side. The Reds can only counter with Votto and, similar to Holliday, Brandon Phillips. The youth of the Reds could be their undoing as this season progresses.
August 11, 201016 yr I think this series proves what many poster have stated that in a short series, when the Cards have their top pitchers going they are better but the 4th and 5th spot in their rotation is suspect. I think the Reds buckled under the pressure of the big series. Hopefully they learn from the experience.
August 12, 201016 yr I think if the Reds would have gotten Lee they could have won it all. Now I think they are in for the fight oftheir lives because of St Louis 1-2 punch on the mound.
