February 17, 201016 yr UK got some calls no doubt about that but the battled back on the road and go the W. That was a nice building block for a young team. I like Big Cuz a little more every game. Dude is a stud.
February 17, 201016 yr I agree that the officiating was poor. At one point they called at least 2, maybe 3 offensive fouls in a row. People were getting away with murder down low, then they'd call a touch foul. Wall was fortunate & got an And 1 on what definitely should have been a no-call. If anything, it was a jump ball. Wall also got away with a goaltend. How often do you see a guy get 3 straight fouls? Was Varnado crying? That had to be frustrating.
February 17, 201016 yr I'm not going to blast the entire MSU fan base over 10 morons. Yeah but you add that ten to the hundreds that called Boogies phone, add that number to the thousands who texted, then add that to the dozens who actually posted the number via posters, websites, etc. then you may have a few more to judge.
February 17, 201016 yr For this team to get to where they want to be and that is playing in April in Indy, they have got to bring it every possession on defense...and frankly they don't. I'm not sure they will ever get it right considering we are already halfway through February. The lights may come on in the tourney, but right now the first two rounds will scare me. The two biggest culprits are Wall and Bledsoe. They take far too many possessions off on defense. Cousins is also not real good at hedging and recovering. Both refuse to fight over screens and do a poor job in recovery. Bledsoe for one gambles way too much and gets burned on backdoors far too often. I thought one of the biggest keys was the job Liggins did on Bost over the last 4 possession in regulation and in overtime. He took away the drives by Bost or forced him to shoot over people. Cal may have liked Liggins's shot at the end of regulation but their were four other players on the floor that I would have rather seen take that shot. Down 7 with 4 to go and to win is nice.
February 17, 201016 yr I've read through the whole thread, and it took me forever. Lot of things have stuck out to me...... The first is I can't believe we got this many posts so fast in a win, that normally only happens in a loss. The second is I cannot believe that many people are acting like the refs handed everything over to Kentucky in this game? Did you even watch the same game I did? Now I will take off my blue shades and admit that the Wall block could have been called a goaltend, and that there may have been another one late that may have been in Kentucky's favor. But IMO, Miss St. got a lot more calls tonight then Kentucky had a chance at getting, and all around it was a very poorly officiated game. Now it may have had a lot to do early with the crowd being so into it, but something was up for the first part of the game when UK could not get a call. One play that sticks out was Orton going for a board and getting pulled back by his jersey, nearly pulled all the way to the ground, and nothing was called. Another instance with Orton was he was shooting and almost the exact same thing happened. Once Liggins was called when he made an excellent defensive play fighting through a screen and staying with his defender. I guess since the screen didn't do its job the refs decided to call a foul on DeAndre for playing great D. Another one off the top of my head was an offensive foul on Bledsoe when he was called for pushing off, when basically it was just a Miss St. player moving his feet and trying to keep up with Bledsoe. I think I could seriously rattle off about five to ten more off the top of my head without going back and watching, and most of them coming from the first half/early in the second. So if you are going to complain about the officiating that is fine, but don't sit there and act like Kentucky got all the calls, or that is the reason Kentucky won. The way the were getting hosed by the officiating in the first half, they probably deserved some of the calls they got late. Another thing I noticed, and this didn't pop up too often, I just glanced at a couple of posts. But I did see some things that seemed to indicate a few people taking up for Miss States fans? Now again, I'll admit, for most of the game they done an excellent job of keeping "The Hump" rocking. I was in constant contact with my buddies during the game via text and we talked about this alot. Tonight was by far the toughest environment that this team has had to play in, and the atmosphere was crazy in there. However, their passion ended up turning ugly, and there is no way you can defend the way they acted after the game was in doubt. I know you can say don't blame everyone for just the couple who threw things, and I would agree with that. BUT, once the game looked to be in doubt, it was like the whole mood changed in that arena. It was like they went from competitively cheering their team, to just total protestors/rioters. It got ugly, and it got ugly quick. Aside from the bottles getting thrown, there was also a lot of dis tasteful chants being chanted, and there was a lot of disrespect and classlessness directed at Coach Cal during his post game interview, and while he was leaving the court. So much so that he, for the first time I have saw, was visibly shaken, and you can tell he felt very un easy about being on the court, and just wanted to get out of there. You add all that on top of the hundreds who called and left remarks on Boogies phones, whether it being racist, ribbing, joking, what ever assortment of calls he got. The thousands of text messages, and the dozens of people who promoted this by posting signs with the number, and by circulating the number on websites. Then IMO, there is no excuse for taking up with what the fan base done down in Humphry Coliseum tonight. Even if there was a few thousand that probably did nothing wrong. The last thing I noticed is..... BOY IT FEELS GOOD TO BE KENTUCKY AGAIN. Very, very hostile environment tonight, things not going your way for most of the game, but you find a way to win. Pat with a huge game. Wall almost goes for a trip dub. Cuz keeps his cool and holds it together all game after everything hes been through since Saturday night. Wins like tonight are what this team needs to get them ready for the dance, and it just absolutely overjoys me to see them pull it out. I noticed a lot of fellow posters/Cat fans who are like me, and are just excited to see the Big Blue pull this one out. What a great win, what great experience to get, in a crazy environment, in an unreal atmosphere. Sheeew, I think I'm about ready to do me a John Wall dance, brush my teeth, lay out my Kentucky tee shirt/pullover/sweatshirt/cap to wear tomorrow, and go to bed and get ready for class tomorrow. OOOOOoooooohhhhh C-A-T-S- CATS CATS CATS!!!!!!!

I completely agree with you. The good thing is though that no team in the country is completely flawless. I mean even Kansas who is talented and has the experience, has been through a lot of the same things as Kentucky. They have had some tough games in games that they probably should win easier and just really didn't play so well. So the things you pointed are are completely right. Except that them and other teams have things that they need to work on too. The one good thing with us, is that we probably have less flaws to fix than most teams. :thumb:
February 17, 201016 yr Great game for the Big Blue tonight. Love games filled with adversity, and we come out on top. Kept battling and fighting, and the tide finally turned. Predicted a tough "trap" game, but so glad we pulled this one out. Can't wait to kick Vandy's dores in, should be another great road atmosphere with the crazy court setup. Anybody else think Bledsoe traveled on that late layup?
February 17, 201016 yr I've read through the whole thread, and it took me forever. Lot of things have stuck out to me...... [for brevity's sake, I shortened the quote] Dolamite, that was an OUTSTANDING post! Excellent points. :thumb:

February 17, 201016 yr After watching the end of game 'festivities' again, I noticed that the crowd cheered loudly everytime someone threw something on the floor. Sadly, that goes beyond 10 or so morons who actually threw those water bottles and such on the floor. Someone could have really gotten hurt and the crowd cheered. Not all of them, but enough that I found that disturbing. For UK, they really took some bad shots going down the stretch when they could have put the game away. That would be a concern going forward, especially with a road trip to Vandy on Saturday. For Miss St, they really played hard. They battled the entire game and I commend their coaches and players for that kind of effort. If they played like that every game, they would not have 8 losses on the season.

Then IMO, there is no excuse for taking up with what the fan base done down in Humphry Coliseum tonight. Even if there was a few thousand that probably did nothing wrong. I noticed the comments earlier about 10 fans or 15 fans. I think the reality is that any fan (at UK, WVU or MSU) that witnesses someone throw a bottle or object at a player, ref or the floor is obviously the ones we are speaking of. However I think the ones who SAW the culprit and did nothing, they are JUST AS GUILTY for not pointing that person out to security. Speaking of security, were they looking for the culprits? I find it ironic in a season where Roy Williams can turn around and have people identify a "heckler" who says "miss it" and the guy is taken away by security for that, but no one is pointing out the idiots who throw objects with intent to hit, harm or hurt - :irked: I lay the same blame on the ones how do not step up to the plate and have the bad guy removed and the security that doesn't go looking immediately into the stands and find the person(s). :madman: Until more of these guys are arrested and/or removed - these activities will continue. I'm done with my rant now. :taz:
February 17, 201016 yr I agree that the officiating was poor. At one point they called at least 2, maybe 3 offensive fouls in a row. That has almost become a trend in college hoops this year. I realize its a tough call, but sometimes the refs get a little charge-happy. It seems like they call one charge, then can't help but call it two or three times in a row. It's like an energizer to everyone.
February 17, 201016 yr The MSU fans are complete trash and it made me very happy to watch their 7 point lead go away in the final minutes. I think I hate the South Carolina fan base more than MSU but its a close race between the two(UT leads by a mile)
February 17, 201016 yr It really seems to me like Bledsoe has not progressed a whole lot this season like I thought he would have. I know he is still a freshman, but this late into the season he shouldn't be playing like a freshman still. There really is no excuse for him to get beat on defense so badly. He should be one of our best on the ball defenders. But at this point I feel like he hurts us more than helps us. Constantly letting his man around him. Remember when Dykes was talking about "Guard your yard" for MSU??? I felt lke that applied more for Bledsoe. I guess I'm just down on the kid because I fell like he can put out a better effort. I may get blasted here but I really don't see this team going as far as the Elite 8 with the way they ar playing. They are just not a very good disciplined defensive basketball team. With that said, go Cats! Beat Vandy! Edited February 17, 201016 yr by Lucky Charms
February 17, 201016 yr If you're up 7 on your home court w/ 3:00 minutes left you expect to win. Even more impressive was UK didn't give up another point in regulation. When they decide to play defense they do it well. I agree w/ LABS though that this team doesn't bring it every trip down on defense and it might be their downfall in the end. All I know is when push comes to shove this year they've found a way to win every game but 1. They got some breaks tonight no doubt, but there were calls missed both ways. The block/charge is the hardest call in any sport IMO.
