February 17, 201016 yr I really think Cousins did a good job of keeping his emotions under control as well... Last night, it seemed like he really avoided arguing calls. He got called for one charge, and I was like "Here comes the gripe!" but he just simply turned around and ran down the court. That, to me, was a great sight to see and hopefully becomes the rule, not the exception.
February 17, 201016 yr Those of you that are saying that UK benefited from the officials are the same that would be the first to get on any UK fan for saying that we were on the short end of the calls. Just the kind of fans that some of you are.
February 17, 201016 yr Nessler and Dykes seemed EXTREMELY peeved after the game. I guess maybe they had to dodge some water bottles as well.

I think there were more bottles thrown than we initially saw just from watching on TV. The announcers and any body else near the court had a right to be extremely peeved after that. I'm surprised the one that landed right by the ref didn't give him a heart attack. One thing I did like is that Stansbury got upset when his team fouled with only two seconds left. Sounds like he knows his crowd.

Just the kind of fans that some of you are. What would that be? Honest fans. I haven't seen anyone say the Cats won because of the officials, but maybe I missed it. There were certainly missed calls both ways last night, but the Cats won because of their rebounding, and their defense late in the game.

No it just seems some are more worried about being "realistic" just so they don't get lumped it with some of the others. There were plenty of missed calls both ways, like in most college basketball games. Luckily, we didn't have Big East officials to make that one really huge call that changes the entire game. I think South Carolina had more beneficial calls when they beat us than UK did last night. The officials didn't decide either of the games though.
February 17, 201016 yr If you would have told me Patterson, Cousins, and Wall all had triple doubles, Miller had 9pts, and Varnardo fould out with 5:08 left, I would have told you it was a blow out. Crazy that it wasn't. Bledsoe is KILLING me on D. The commentators kept talking about Bost getting by Cousins, but it was only because he went around Bledsoe any time he wanted. Liggins did a good job defensively at the end. The officials weren't great, but I didn't see anything too crazy, and they were equally bad both ways. The Wall block/goaltend was a goaltend, but in realtime it looked like he pinned it. Even the announcers said that until they saw the replay. The foul on the Wall jumper didn't look like a lot, but it obviously affected the shot. Glad they got out with a win playing in such a hostile environment.

Bledsoe stood straight up on almost every defensive possession last night. Very frustrating. The Cats shot 4-24 from three and a lot of those were good looks. That is what kept the game close. That and the fact that MSU would hold the ball forever to shorten the game, I haaaaaaate that.

It was just said on ESPN first take but of course it was Skip Bayless and he is pro anything controversial.
February 17, 201016 yr It was a tight called game the whole night with several fouls and questionable calls made. You have to expect that and play through them. MSU had several opportunities to win but could not capitalize on the moments. Bledsoe needs to work on his defense. He cant guard a chair and this will come back to bite UK in the future.

I have to admit when they got down by 7 with about 3 minutes to go, and I told my brother in law that they were beat. You have to give them credit, they fought back in a very tough enviroment, and pulled out the win. That's something they weren't able to do against South Carolina.
February 17, 201016 yr Good win for the Cats. There has been some posting on here about the phone calls and text to Cousins. Did anyone else hear Dikes and Nessler say the MSU officials where going to check Cousins phone to see if they could trace some numbers? The block that Wall made was a goal tending, but the only view I saw that would substantiate that for sure was the camera view from the top of the backboard in slow motion. The refs do not have that benefit, they only get to see it in real time. The Patterson play could have been called either way. Again the Refs only got to see it in real time. We saw it from a straight on camera angle in slow motion that the Refs did not see. I dog the Refs when I watch a game as much as the next person, but I also know that I see it from a different view and have the benefit of slow motion. Here is a tweet from Seth Davis that I agree with: SethDavisHoops: I also don't get the sniping about the refs. The game moves fast but they still get most of 'em right. Let's see any of you do better. GO BIG Blue
February 17, 201016 yr What is up with all the techno and other crazy music at South Carolina and MSU? Did anyone notice these schools don't even bring their band to their home basketball games?
February 17, 201016 yr Nice win in a hostile environment. Odd game, MSU battled without their leading scorer and their leading defender really struggled with fouls. Had UK knocked down a couple of three's it would of been over early. They need to put Patterson in the middle of that zone and let him shoot from 15ft. to loosen it up. That or set Wall a high screen and let him drive. As for the bad calls, that's how it goes. I've seen a lot of that this year. The Wall goaltend was a 50/50 call in real time (obvious goaltend on replay), and the Patterson block/charge did look like a block. But, we have the ability of replay. The refs don't. (unless it's a UofL game--LOL) Both were bang/bang calls. I agree with an earlier post, it's nearly a charge every time now. Drives me nuts. At the end of the day. MSU blew the game. I read on twitter earlier, and honestly didn't even think about during the game, that the foul count was 10-0 from the 3 minute point on. Basically, the foul count was 10 on MSU and 0 on UK from the point they were down 7 to the end of the game. As for the behavior of the MSU fans. That was immature and stupid. It's just a game people. People should learn that making Cousins frustrated only makes him play better. That being said, I'd like to of seen Cousins not taunt them back as much as he did. His performance alone was enough. But I guess that's easier said than done. It's just who he is. Patterson was the real hero for UK IMO. He's money on that baseline jumper, and always keeps his composure. Thought it was his best game of the season. One last thing, I've got to give credit to Cal for the coaching job he has done with Liggins. He's a team first player now. Completely different kid. He works harder than anyone on the court now. Something I never thought I'd be able to say about him.
February 17, 201016 yr What about Darius Miller tonight? He made a few big baskets and played great D!
