December 7, 200916 yr BK from Twitter. Just informed our team that Notre Dame has contacted me and I will listen to what they have to say.
December 7, 200916 yr I doubt money is the sole issue. I mean as we seen this year, even he doesn't lose a game at UC that still might not get a chance for a title. As someone else said if they lose to Pitt, they might not have even made a BCS bowl even with just one lost. That would not be a problem at Notre Dame, one lost you are definitely in a BCS bowl, and depending on how other teams did that year might even be good enough to get in the Title game. If he wants a chance to win titles, which is the goal of most coaches. Then Notre Dame gives him a better chance to do that if he can turn them around like he did at UC. By the way comparing him to Weis is not a good comparison. Weis had no head coaching experience. BK has head coaching experience, and has been very good at it. There is a better chance of him doing well, than it was for Weis because of experience alone. Plus there is a lot of talent there, even with Claussen and Tate leaving. Weis did bring in talent, he just obviously didn't know how to coach them up that well. With all that said, I think if Texas misses that field goal. That BK would definitely be staying at UC, because it would show that he can play in a title game at UC. I think if UC was going to be in the title game, he would have definitely stayed and been there for a long time IMO. That kicker missing that kicked, hurt UC more than just having a title shot. It probably lost them their coach also. I never compared them. That would be showing stats against stats which never happened. I said he's setting himself up to be just like him. Until Notre Dame lowers academic standards they will never win a title in todays world. It killed me to say lower the academic standards too!:puke:
December 7, 200916 yr BK from Twitter. Just informed our team that Notre Dame has contacted me and I will listen to what they have to say. The fact that he is letting his team know says a lot about him. Also keeping them in the know means he wants to stay on their good side and not have them turn against him. That to me means UC still has a shot to hang onto him. Or at least have him coach the bowl so he can "finish" what he started.
December 7, 200916 yr 2 out of the last 3 head coaches had no head coaching experience I dont think. I know Weis had no head coaching experience, and I don't think Davies did either. Ty Willingham just was not a good hire for a program like Notre Dame. Bob Davie was the DC at Texas A&M and Notre Dame prior to being hired as HC for the Irish.
December 7, 200916 yr I think that Notre Dame has been in the top 10 in recruiting for the last 3 years, maybe even top 5 I think. So even though Notre Dame hasn't done much lately, top recruits still do go there. Weis did do a good job with that, he just didn't coach them up that well I guess. BK if he goes there probably will be about to recruit really well too, and would be getting better players there than he would be able to get at UC. I apologize for not being up on Notre Dame. I heard an interview on the Herd today and I believe it was Todd Blackledge. He said with Clausen & Tate going pro that the Notre Dame job would be a rebuilding job. Now if they have had that good of recruiting classes, is that statement correct?
December 7, 200916 yr All this talk about academic standards hurting Notre Dame is way off base. Sure their are some players that the Irish must back off from because they would not be able to get into school, but for the most part the majority of the top recruits would be able to get into Notre Dame. The Irish skill players on offense were rated as good or better than just about any other school. Weis's game management, play calling etc, set these guys back as much as anything. IMO, the biggest problem Weis had with his roster was on the defensive side. Way too many recruiting battles were lost over the last couple of years. Look at who Notre Dame had offered and some of the guys that they came down to the wire with who are now starting for other programs. Notre Dame didn't lose those players due to academic stardards they just choose other schools. The academic excuse is simply not valid in my mind. There are plenty of top athletes available who can get into Notre Dame, they simply haven't wanted to come to South Bend.
December 8, 200916 yr I never compared them. That would be showing stats against stats which never happened. I said he's setting himself up to be just like him. Until Notre Dame lowers academic standards they will never win a title in todays world. It killed me to say lower the academic standards too!:puke: Why? Its not like these teams are out recruiting Notre Dame because of it. I mean as I said the last 3 years Notre Dame has had top 10 classes. Notre Dame has the talent there, and obviously can still recruit the talent there. Weis did a great job of that, even with not having a good football team to sell the recruits too. So obviously that is really not hurting them. Not having a good coach with experience, who knows how to recruit but also how to coach up kids is what has hurt Notre Dame. The academic standards thing really does not mean much, a good recruiter still bring top 10 classes into Notre Dame, and I think BK would definitely be able to keep that going.
December 8, 200916 yr I'd hate to see BK leave, but would wish him well if he did. He has turned this UC program around and taken it to a level never seen by the UC faithful. I just hope if he leaves, UC doesn't go through the same things Louisville did when Petrino left....here's to hoping that BK says "thanks, but no thanks" when he meets with NC.
December 8, 200916 yr I think it is completely unfair to UC and its players for Notre Dame and Brian Kelly to be discussing and possibly accepting a deal before their season is even over. Just because Notre Dame is done competing this year should not give them the right to go in and disrupt other successful programs who are still working hard to reach their goals. If Kelly does take the job I do not see why he cannot just verbally committ to the job and still finish what he started at UC. If Kelly doesn't coach in this game against Florida it will be a real shame.
December 8, 200916 yr Just saw an interview with Jim Harbaugh on ESPN at Green Bay. When asked about the Notre Dame job: "I've had no contact with anyone from Notre Dame...I'm the head coach at Stanford University...god willing, yes I'll be back at Stanford next year." I know this very well could be "coach speak", but signs continue to point to BK leaving.

Granted while there should be a non-tampering rule like what the pros have as far as talking to other coaches that are still playing you can't blame the school for wanting to get a coach in place to help out with their recruiting. UofL is doing the same thing by talking to Charlie Strong at Florida with the Gators playing against UC in the Sugar Bowl...although I know it is not the same as talking to a DC as it is a Head Coach in these situations, but it is still a distraction. Hardest part will be for the players wandering what their coach is going to do and how much longer he will be around.

The main reason is national signing day is less than a month after the national championship game. They need to push this back until the spring so this type of stuff doesn't occur.
December 8, 200916 yr I know its Notre Dame but this is not the job it was even 10 years ago. I think the Fighting Irish has lost alot of credibility because it doesn't play for a conference championship every year. They've lost credibility because they've gotten smoked in their BCS games. It has nothing to do with a lack of a conference. What purpose would being in a conference serve them? Without a conference, they're able to play all over the US, which is huge for recruiting as they're not locked into 7 games within their conference (region). They don't have to deal with any bowl revenue sharing amongst the conference. They get to pocket all the money. They have a national television deal with NBC for all their home games, which they wouldn't get with a conference. Plus, all their away games are covered by ABC or ESPN, again, something that won't happen with a conference. They still have a huge national following, which helps with the voters, because they will bring in the money for the bowl games (because we all know the bowls are about generating the most revenue). I cannot see one positive thing about joining a conference.

I cannot see one positive thing about joining a conference. Here's the problem, how many kids care about playing all over the country when the recruits that ND needs can go to USC, Florida, Texas...etc., and still play all over the country? Another thing, when Urban Meyer walks in and says they've won however many SEC titles, and shows him the rings, it means a lot more than "It's Notre Dame". That doesn't mean squat anymore. Heck, OSU has been trounced in their BCS games but it still looks better because Tressel can show off those Big Ten Championships. Fact of the matter is, ND has NOTHING to get these kids to South Bend to play football. (Keeping in mind that most kids they need to compete for a national title don't give a crap about their academics.) Lastly, a recruit doesn't care about the TV deal or not having to share revenues. They want trophies and rings. Everyone is on TV every week now and they don't see a dime of the bowl revenues.
