September 10, 200521 yr Can't we all just get along Besides, in football the only private over public domination is in 4A. Public schools pretty much own the rest of the classes. I don't hear private schools complaining about public schools' domination in 1,2, and 3A.
September 10, 200521 yr With all due respect, it darn near happens now and they can't recruit and can't go out and get every kid they want. I think they would be frightening. Imagine this conversation in Northern KY: do you want to go to "X" and play for a State title that is watered down (at best), or come here, get prepped for College with lots of exposure, and get to go to Indy, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Nashville? Don't be so sure B.T. It's not even close to happening now. Trinity and X are great programs but they aren't dominating every year. It might seem like it but they aren't. Trinity had an unbelievable run with the Best QB to come out of the state in a long time if not all time. X is having a good run right now but don't count out some of the other schools just yet. I really don't think it would affect NKY area at all. I think the kids that would go to HHS, Beechwood, Dixie, would still go there. The school that would be crushed would be NCC and all the other small private schools. Who would they compete against? I still think most people don't understand the budget it would take to make this schedule happen. How much more exposure?? If you are good the college's will find you. What about the other sports?? basketball, soccer, baseball, field hockey ect. Travel budget keeps on getting bigger.

I don't hear private schools complaining about public schools' domination in 1,2, and 3A. Sure we can. There is nothing wrong with a good spirted debate that gets your mind thinking. Next time I see H.S. sportsrbest I will be happy to let him buy me a beer or two. :thumb:
September 10, 200521 yr If private schools are not allowed to compete for a state championship in football I believe you would see the GCL South (Moeller, Elder, St. X, LaSalle) extend an immediate invitation to Trinity and St.X to join.
September 10, 200521 yr I wish to commend Mitch Crump of Meade Cty and Mike Sanders here in NKY at Lloyd for renewing this issue. Schools such as Dayton, Bellevue, Silver Grove and Ludlow just to name a few need to work together to see that this measure gets the needed 2/3rds vote to push it thru. Until the parochial and private schools learn to play by the same rules as the public schools it's time they try having their own playoffs. Please cite the KHSAA rules that apply to public schools but do not apply to private schools. In fact please cite ANY KHSAA rules that are different.
September 10, 200521 yr Tennessee's situation has been mentioned a few times in this thread and others. Tennessee is NOT split between public and private. They are split between schools that offer financial aid and those that don't. Schools that don't, public schools PLUS 32 private schools, compete in a separate tourney than those schools that do offer financial aid.
September 10, 200521 yr Does anyone like my idea with the Div.1 and Div. 2? Again if you can't compete with the large public schools/private schools in Louisville who have an open enrollment, no district bussing then be Div. 2 until you think you can compete with them. Then if you feel like you can' t anymore then realign and drop back down to Div. 2. I also have a great idea for the BCS. Does anyone want to know? :ylsuper:
September 10, 200521 yr At this point, I say kick em out. I want to see what return they get on what they ask for... If the KHSAA wants private schools to have their own playoffs, the private schools just may leave the KHSAA. Why not form a private school league? Scholarships could be given. No recruitman problems. X and T might become nationally ranked schools, playing teams from other states. Trinity could fill up their new stadium playing Dayton Chaminade or Cincinnati Moeller rather than Eastern or Oldham County. MAYBE the problem is that Xand T have gotten too good to play Kentucky schools in football any more. Male and Manual are the only Kentucky schools that usually have a chance to beat X or T. I agree that X and T have MANY advantages over the public schools in football. They have programs that produce 100 freshmen each year.
September 10, 200521 yr Do you really think that they would go out and recruit the best players and ruin HS football in the area. This isn't basketball where you need only 5 players to make a great team and where travel is relatively cheap compared to football. The travel budget alone for a high school football team would be outrageous. You wouldn't be able to take everyone, maybe the top 40 players and the rest stay home and dress for home games. What happens to those JV and freshman players. Who are they going to play if they don't play schools from the area and if the varsity teams aren't playing the local teams I'm sure the public schools wouldn't play the JV and frosh teams either. Trinity and X would still be great teams but IMO they wouldn't draw that many more kids. Hopefully this is all just great message board material and it will never come to this. Knowing the alumni of X and T, the answer is yes. If X and T could give scholarships and recruit anywhere, they would. KHSAA better fear that pall private schools might leave the KHSAA and form their own league.
September 10, 200521 yr I'm not so sure. Without the allure of a potential state championship, I would think the private schools would suffer a bit. Of course, you're closer to the situation than I am. What do you think the best atheletes are worried about? The possibility of winning a KY state championship or a chance to showcase your talents on a national level and a chance at a nice D1 scholarship?
September 10, 200521 yr What do you think the best atheletes are worried about? The possibility of winning a KY state championship or a chance to showcase your talents on a national level and a chance at a nice D1 scholarship? Do you think the kids at Oak Hill are concerned with not winning a VA State Title in hoops???
September 11, 200521 yr Knowing the alumni of X and T, the answer is yes. If X and T could give scholarships and recruit anywhere, they would. KHSAA better fear that pall private schools might leave the KHSAA and form their own league. They'd be fine, as would a couple other large, well-financed privates with large, active alumni organizations. The losers would be the vast majority of private schools, especially the smaller ones without the resources to compete and play a regional schedule; along with all the other public schools playing for a watered down title!! On another note, if I was the Meade County AD; I think I worry more about trying to compete with a mid-level NKY 4-A program, than getting Trinity and X tossed out of his league!! Ditto for Lloyd's Sanders whose team has now been blow out by a sophmore group making their first varsity starts, and a team that's averaged a couple wins a year recently!!
September 11, 200521 yr What do you think the best atheletes are worried about? The possibility of winning a KY state championship or a chance to showcase your talents on a national level and a chance at a nice D1 scholarship? Frankly, I think that's part of the problem, the desire to put individual goals ahead of potential team goals. I'd much rather be part of a program that competes for a state championship that has its season effectively over by the first weekend in November. And what happens to the rest of the sports at that school? Do they go "independent" as well? Suppose Trinity and St. Xavier went out on their own and played the GCL teams, the Indiana and Tennessee powerhouses ... those teams are still playing for a state title in November. What happens to the Rocks and Tigers?
September 11, 200521 yr Do you think the kids at Oak Hill are concerned with not winning a VA State Title in hoops??Of course they aren't. But there are a lot of similar programs around the country ... it's part of the culture of basketball now. That isn't the case in football. Does anyone know of any other nationally prominent football programs that don't compete for a state or league championship?
September 11, 200521 yr What happens to the Rocks and Tigers? They play each other to see who the best football team in the state is. :sssh:
