Another private school post season play vote?

The Country Club is called Highlands Country Club. Was there last night.

It is called Highland Country Club and is in no way affiliated with Highlands High School. This is almost as bad as the Cincinnati news stations calling us Highland Heights High School.

Sure! :thumb:
I got the best idea. Why don't we make it like this. Let's have Div. 1 with all the teams that think they can compete with the St.X., Trinity, Male, Highlands. Div. 2 are all the whinners and teams that can't compete with these schools and then we can make it fair for everybody. It is like stages in a baby or a kid riding there bike for the first time. When they feel they can take off the diapers or the training wheels they can come up to Div.1. What a great idea.

i like this idea.,

In a great document we are all very familiar with, or at least we all should be, it states, No taxation without representation. One vote one voice and No double taxes.

We parents who CHOOSE to send our kids to private schools in essence are double taxed. We pay public school taxes via our property taxes and elsewhere just like everyone else. Do we get a break on our taxes for sending our kids to a private school.

Do you here us complaining about not getting this break. No! We make a conscience choice everytime we write a check to St. X, KCD, CAL, Assumption, Trinity, etc. We accept the circumstances for what they are and we CHOOSE to do something about it! It's lazy and it's easier to just sit back and whine and complain about your situation, than it is to get up off your lazy dead duff and change your position. Our society has produced a bunch of complacent individuals who can't do much for themselves. They have no work ethic. That's why most jobs in this country are being taken over by foreign labor. They believe in working for what they get. Not having it handed to them because it's fair.

Here is a thought for you, what do you think would happen if every single private school in the state of Kentucky, from kindergarten through 12th grade, closed their doors the same day. The government officials wouldn't know what to do. There wouldn't be enough school buses, school buildings, teachers, books, paper, pencils, free lunches, free breakfast, etc. It would be total pandemonium. Everyone's taxes would go up. Yes even mine. :fire: :madman:

What's comical to me in this debate is that the complaints are primarily centered on three private institutions, two of which have HUGE size advantages on the other schools with which they compete.

Having more knowledge regarding the situation in NKY, where we have a larger number of private institutiions percentagewise, than probably any other area of the state; I just don't see the dominance, to the point of calling for a separation?? Looking at the major sports, who dominates up here in statewide competition??

Football--Beechwood in 1-A and Highlands in 3-A, both public schools!! CovCath is always a contender in 3-A, as is NCC in 1-A, but normally bow out to one of the above. 4-A (no private reps) and 2-A dominated by public schools.

Basketball--No one dominant team. Several different 9th regions reps in the last ten years, with seven or eight being publics if memory serves me. 10th has been all publics, but one I think.

Baseball--CovCath probably the only program consistantly in the top 5 over the last several years among the privates, but Dixie, Conner, Scott, Campbell, etc. have been right there.

And as for the privates having these vastly superior facilities--You couldn't be more off base!!!! The finest facilities not only up here, but across the state; from a standpoint of school buildings, gyms, football fields, labs, etc. are overwhelmingly in favor of the public schools.

As for the blanket statements on here that ALL private schools have these HUGE advantages over public schools across the board--I just don't see where your coming from?? Are there a couple of private schools who have some advantages--Probably (but size is still the most improtant factor); but an all encompassing statement to that effect is just as wrong as the "hire better coaches" or "privates work harder" statements!!

This complaint if for Trinity and St. Xavier football, and Lex Cath basketball. That is all, and that is comical...

Umm, school lunch is only free for kids below the poverty line.

I don't know what to make about your tax complaint. If you have your own insurance, you still pay taxes that go to medicare. If you were to finance your own security force, you still pay for police. You're choosing a service beyond what is offered to the public, but you still have to do your part on paying for the public service... c'est la vie, if you parlez-vous.

If you're implying that everyone that doesn't choose private education is lazy...

I'm all for the Catholic competition in sports, but someties the supporters of those schools get a little overzealous in this conversation.

Yeah thats it, admit defeat. All is lost. It will be interesting to see if the schools that vote for this actually ever won everything. In that case wouldn't we be rewarding the losers by allowing them to change the rules in their favor. Newsflash, the losers will continue to lose and the current winners will continue to win. I guess if there are no 275# linemen or 6'7" front court players in all counties, those types of players should outlawed as well. Or maybe the government would force them to be bussed evenly around the state.

You misunderstood my post. I never took a stance one way or the other on separating the private and public school state tournaments.

What I said is when people make comments such as, "The publics need to stop complaining and work harder to catch up with the privates...", it gets on my nerves. They throw up the same argument everytime. Well, hard work will just go so far. Unless you can magically stretch a kid to be 6'7, then a 6'1 kid will have trouble guarding him. Facts are facts. Hard work and teaching fundamentals will gain you some advantages, but not enough to gain the upper hand on teams with superior size and depth. That's reality.

"The issue was resurrected in April by Mitch Crump.

Crump, superintendent of Meade County Schools (just west of Louisville) is chairman of the superintendents group in that region.

In a letter to the KHSAA, Crump said private schools have advantages over public schools, such as being allowed to offer financial aid and having more money to spend on athletics."

I wish to commend Mitch Crump of Meade Cty and Mike Sanders here in NKY at Lloyd for renewing this issue. Schools such as Dayton, Bellevue, Silver Grove and Ludlow just to name a few need to work together to see that this measure gets the needed 2/3rds vote to push it thru. Until the parochial and private schools learn to play by the same rules as the public schools it's time they try having their own playoffs.

it's time they try having their own playoffs.

...and you think that is punishing the private schools?

If you could only get NCC, CCH, St. Henry and the others out of the way; you'll be contending for the state championship in no time!!

They do

They do

:p No they don't and it's only getting worse.
