BredFan
Newcath was no-hit through 5 innings, but Nathan Rawe scored on a Jeramie Connor single to tie the game in the 6th. Connor advanced to third on an errant pickoff throw to first base, and later scored the go-ahead run. Newport played a whale of a game!! It's a shame someone had to lose. Newcath will advance to face Highlands tomorrow at Morscher Field in Silver Grove. Both will advance to next week's Regional Tournament. Best of luck to both teams, and once again, a fine performance this afternoon from the Wildcats. Keep your head's up!
KyTiger89
Not surprised about this outcome. I actually thought Newport was going to win this game. Great game by the Wildcats and congrats to the Breds
NKYThreeFer
Well we said Newport enjoyed playing spoiler. Looks like they almost did it again, and without Shawn Klass, their best player.

NKYThreeFer
What happened to Shawn Klass? I had heard before the game he was injured and wasn't going to play
Clyde
Was Rawe safe at first? I know he was called safe but I heard that many disagreed with Blue.
af veteran
What happened to Shawn Klass? He hurt his back last week. What a pitching performance by Pat Klaas. It was ashame to see Newport lose this game.It would have a been a huge upset but both teams played real well.Good teams always find a way to win. Good luck Breds!
cchwildcat241
Rawe was safe at 1st. The turning point could have been with a runner on 3rd for NCC the NCC hitter requested time. The umpire did not grant the hitter timeout yet the pitcher in the middle of his delivery stopped and held the ball. This is clearly a balk but the homeplate umpire said no????? Shawn Meyer did a great job on the mound for the breds and Rawe, Connor and Kelly got it done in the end.

If the pitcher stops his delivery due to the batter stepping out of the box its not a balk.
homeofthewhopper
the put his hand up, turned his head to the umpire requesting time. The hitter never left the box. It was a balk and a run should have scored for NCC the hitter struck out 2 pitches later. Both pitchers did a great job.

Rather or not time was actually give to the batter doesn't matter, once he attempts to call time the bulk is off the table due to the pitcher stopping. homeofthewhopper
If the pitcher starts his delivery to the plate he must finish. If he stops on his own it's a balk.
bulldog77
If the pitcher starts his delivery to the plate he must finish. If he stops on his own it's a balk. INCORRECT!!! you may want to reference the following in the NFHS rulebook… Rule 6.4.2.1 …. “If the pitcher, with a runner on base, stops or hesitates in his delivery because the batter steps out of the box with one foot, two feet, or holds up his hands to request “TIME”, it shall not be a balk.
