10 Good
  1. I have watched Travis Jones play over the years and he is one of or the best SS in NKY. Its just that he plays on a bad team and no one notices. "You can be a good player on a bad team". He hits, runs, fields well and is just an all around good player! Any college would be lucky if this kid falls in their lap. He is just as good a person and student as well as a very good baseball player.
  2. Jones from Newport is one of the best around. People over look him, because he goes to Newport. He's one of the best players I seen last year from the 9th region. Can't wait to see what he does this year
  3. Newport will always be a threat. As you can see last year they won the 9th region. Juniors last year on the team rarley played varsity time besides the Jones kid. Newport will be good this year. I see them in the top 10. They have a strong class of 7 seniors this year that all can play, and real talented underclass men. Their three big threats will be Jones, Covington, and Hinkel who is a transfer. Their guard play will be good also.
  4. You may be right but they are going to have a couple kids with some size coming out that has not played in a couple years. These kids that will now be seniors has always competed well over the years on the JV team, so it will be interesting to see if the new coach can keep up the winning attitude that was started the last couple of seasons.
  5. Travis Jones-SS for Newport. 460 avg. 3hr. over 500 obp for a leadoff hitter. (not bad). This kid is having a great year (only a junior) on a bad team. I know he might not be in the discussion for POY but with good stats like that i thought he needed to be mentioned. Newport chooses not to put the stats in, he is a good hitter and plays a sound SS. Also is a fine young man on and off the field.
  6. Wow, calm down. Its always Newport that gets the blame for not voting to seed. Why would they? Newport is becoming a smaller school every year and will probably be a single A school in a few years but you never hear anything about Bellevue or Dayton not seeding. Yeah Newport did win the region in basketball "so what" good for them! This just sounds like sour grapes to me and if whatever team you want to win if they are good enough to win they will. There is to much stuff in life to be stressed about for you to be worried over a blind draw. One last thing, it is not the kids fault on this subject but you want run up the score on them!
  7. Travis Jones-Jr.Newport. Hitting well over 400 and playing great at SS. This kid is a real good ball player that no one hear's about because Newport is down this year and the team does not call in his stats. For anyone that has played against or watched him play, what is your opinion on this young man?
  8. That is correct he is # 10 for Newport. He is playing select baseball this summer for NKY Warriors.
  9. Congratulations!!! He is a fine young man that has woked hard and did not listen to people saying that could not make it. Great job im proud of this young man.
  10. Jake Cain for 5 innings then the relief pitchers got shelled for 8 runs in the seventh. Cain was up 4-1 when he left the game. Ian Plank for 5 innings for Newport then shortstop Travis Jones pitched the last two for the victory.
  11. Wow! Newport pulls the upset for only their second victory of the season.
  12. Junior Travis Jones-Newport. Solid defensively at SS and a good hitter.(3HR)
  13. shawn clauss is only a junior. i do not believe brandon tucker will play baseball. he has not played his first 3 years of high school. its a shame because baseball is best sport.
  14. Luther is a look a like for former UK player Tayshaun Prince. He is like 6-4 and built just like him. He also has serious hops and has had some highlight blocks this season. This is a team with no big stars and no eye-popping numbers but the most imporant thing is they play as a TEAM!
  15. Cogratulations Newport on your impressive victory! It was a forgone conclusion that Holmes was going to win the 9th region but that is why you play the game. Its March Madness and anything can happen on any given night. All i can say is that Newport had nothing to lose and they played like it. I have one other comment, im tired of seeing all the negative stuff being said on here and thats that! To end on a good note, i saw Ricardo Johnson come out way after most people had left and congratulated the Newport players again. That showed what a class act and fine young man that he is!
