Is the Political Atmosphere Dangerous?

Recommended Posts

The hard part is cutting through all of the rhetoric, fanaticism, and left-wing/right-wing influenced information to find the truth. How are we as Americans supposed to know the truth when one side says it’s good for the country and the other says it’s bad? All politicians stretch the truth to fit their agenda and the media does the same thing even though they are supposed to be the “honest brokers”.

Great point.

BTW the worst of all offenders one either side is Glenn Beck. He's flat out scary in his rhetoric and made-up conspiracies.

As long as Olbermann broadcasts Beck is not even close to being the worst offender. I truly believe Olbemann is a little psychotic.

I feel that the main stream media's anointment of this President, now and before his election, propagated the lemming reaction for him that you so fiercely accuse the listeners of Rush, Hanity, and Beck of. For those that can't think for themselves, the above pundits simply offset the barrage of Obama worship that plasters the major networks and news channels.

Are you proposing Beck be banned from the airways?

I am not limiting my criticism to those 3 mentioned. They are certainly included. My original post stated that its been a bipartisan issue.

I'd also argue that the worship you mention that many thought was coming has not been seen like it was predicted. I think that lasted until the first spending bill came out.

I am not calling for anyone to be banned. Unamerican.

However, I am telling you and others that Beck et al are dangerous in today's atmosphere. When you have people struggling mightily and the pressure that comes with it and then you have whack jobs like Beck sounding like a late-night AM conspiracy theorist some of these people that are borderline take it as gospel and feel they need to lash out.

IMO its worse that it has been in a long time.

Give me some examples of KO coming up with wild theories and accusations like Beck has.

Here's a few of Beck's claims:

The President wants to eradicate the 2nd amendment.

Calling the President a Marxist and fascist.

Ranting about a "New World Order" agreeing with a whack job named Alex Jones http://www.infowars.com/.

"The govt is a heroin pusher using smiley faced facism to grow the nanny state."

"This is what's coming America. Depression and revolution."

"We are a country heading towards socialism and totalitarian state."

The country today reminds him of "the early days of Hitler."

"He (President) is addicting this country to heroin. The heroin is govt slavery."

Then add in his constant weeping (literally) on air and you have an unstable person potentially influencing even less stable people.

I have absolutely no interest in googling Olbermann. Watch him, you'll see what I mean rather quickly. He's the most pathetic person in the media I've ever seen, and that's saying a lot.

Is your dislike of him due to his obvious politics? I can see that being a problem. However, as I've claimed, you cannot find whacked out claims by him like you can with Beck.

Some think KO's job is to be impartial. I disagree. I think his job is to bring on people and give opinions. He wanted Obama to win the Presidency. So what? Others wanted McCain. Who cares? He's not delivering the nightly news like Walter Cronkite used to. His job is to give opinions.

I don't always agree with him but I find him very interesting and highly intelligent.

And , yes, I do realize he called President Bush a "fascist."

BTW this thread isn't just about Glenn Beck. There are whack jobs like him all over the place and they all have different political views. The thread is asking do these guys contribute to either something as simple as "negative discussion" or something as major as "whack jobs going out and shooting people?"

Clyde, he's ill, plain and simple. To say he hasn't made whacked out claims is wrong. I tried listening to him for a long time but had to give it up as he put out something whacked almost every night. Beck is nowhere near as bad.

I strongly disagree. Most Democrats don't listen to Glenn Beck. :D

It doesn't seem that you give Beck the same leeway you give Olbermann.

Then I haven't made myself clear. I could care less which way he leans. His political philosphy is irrelevant to me and to this discussion. However, his maniacal rants and whack job quotes are relevant and , again, I think HE has the potential to contribute to those who are unstable.
