Who is operating the concession stands?

 

 

Before someone jumps me, I was just wondering. They looked like high school age kids.

 

I think the high schools in the host district of the 10th were able to work the concessions to make some extra money for the schools ect..

Let me ask you a question here about the 9th region. I notice in the pics that the crowd is not excited, does this have anything to do with the location of the tournment? I have been going to the 5th region tournment. Adair County is my school and we bring a big crowd, but the gym (Marion Co) I am quessing will hold about 3000-3500 people, so it is much easier to fill up then BOK, but the crowd in the 5th region tournment is cheering, clapping, standing up, almost every good play. Looking at the pics it doesn't look like it is that way in this 9th tournment?

 

You have to remember that the students and bands sit on the ends of the arena and everyone else sits in the middle. Students have yet to come out in any numbers to cheer for their home teams. Everybody gets spread out in the big arena.

 

Dixie brought the biggest student crowd so far. But the administration paid for their seats.

The seats are so soft and comfy that no one wants to stand up.:taz:

 

Well I would rather the people in front of me not stand so I can stay seated, unless it is a big play.

I think alot of it has to do with the smaller county schools and towns and the dry counties around here, there just isn't as much to do around here, so high school basketball is more popular. Just having a chance to win the region is a big deal, where as perhaps your bigger school dont start getting excited unless they think they have a chance to win the sweet16. Dixie is a pretty big school. 5A in football.

I would have to agree. Most of the students were not showing up when it was at their own school. It doesn't seem to be as big of a deal to most of them. When I was in school it was a can't miss event.

Big place, but seemed like a nice crowd for the 9th semis.

I think there are quite a few fans like you...including me. I haven't attended the regional games in several years because I did not want to deal with arrive very early, sit in cramped hot arena, empty the gym and repeat. I am LOVING it this year at BOKC. And personally, I will take the big time, first class arena atmosphere over the cramped, hot, uncomfortable HS gym for the regional games. It makes this event truly special. We just need bigger crowds to show up and the momentum for that seems to be growing.

I went Sunday, for the first time and enjoyed the entire experience.

Yes, the prices are higher; yes, there is a little less atmosphere than a packed high school gym. Yes, the crowd though larger seems small in large building. Yes, the student ticket price needs to be address in the future. Many of these issues can be said of the Sweet 16 (especially if Kentucky is playing at the same time)

As a long time Sweet 16 attendee the 9^th\10^th tournament fells more like a mini state tournament than a big game in a high school gym. This is a good thing.

This makes the tournament unique and makes it a bigger event. In the end, I believe attendance will be greater than in the high school gyms. I attend many high school games each year and have rarely attended the semi s or the finals due to the long lines and packed buildings, I’m sure there are others like me.

 

As the bugs get worked out of the system on this event it is something I hope will continue for a long time.

Most students didn't buy their own tickets as their high school principal bought 300 tickets for students and faculty

Principal Banta used the proceeds from the school's vending machines, so even though the school paid for the tickets, the kids and faculty actually provided that money by supplementing meals.

My impresssion was that the crowds were not nearly as large as the 9th Region Semis on Sunday afternoon.

My guess is that they were comparable to the 10th Region opening round games.

I expect the crowds tomorrow night to be huge, albeit with the early 6:30pm start time of the 10th Region game, the crowd for the first game might not reach its potential, but by tip-off of the second game I'm guessing that 6 or 7,000 could be in the house - we'll just have to wait and see. Maybe not!

The tip for the 10th Region finals is actually at 6 p.m. while the start for the 9th finals is set for 8:30 p.m.

 

The 10th Region winner will have time to celebrate on the court and to cut down the nets....I'm assuming the game will end between 7:15 and 7:30 and the celebration will last about 30 minutes or so.
