You look at the recruiting he has brought with Orton, Patterson and the rest.

But quietly, has Billy built a championship caliber team for next season with the addition of the players?

Added a dominate low post player to compliment Patterson in Orton.

Added a great backup of post players in Pilgrim.

Added a scoring wing in Hood.

Added a 'true' point guard in Vilarino.

I'm not trying to make the roster and depth chart for next season, but without huge blockbuster signings, has Gillispie built a dominate team for next season (assuming Meeks/Patterson stay)?

I am not going to go ahead and say Championship Team but I am going to say that when Meeks and Patterson stay, everyone you mention puts on a UK jersey we are automatic top 15 team all season and should/could be top 10 all season. If nothing else I will be happy when we get players that are Meeks and Patterson's caliber.

If the above named new guys are as good as we hope they may be, could be a top team, if not no. IMO we need a couple of zone busters or outside shooters badly, after Sat. game Miller looks like he could become one.

I look for a much better team next season, to say if it will be a championship caliber team or not would be impossible. A person just does not know how well freshmen will play or how they will adjust to the college game no matter how many "hamburger boys" or stars they have next to their name.

I just can't imagine that both Meeks and Patterson stay. I think one stays and one is gone. I hope Orton/Harrelson/Stevenson can fill Patterson's shoes.

I'm not sure Patterson would be the one who would be leaving.

Meeks and Patterson both have great character when it comes to wanting to win basketball games and play just for the pride involved in doing so. The day they stepped on campus they have the Kentucky spirit running through them and I really think we have a couple of guys who want to be known for bringing Kentucky basketball back instead of just being a couple nice diamonds in the Kentucky rough.

Think about all the UK legends......I'n this state guys such as Delk, Sheppard, Tayshaun, Kenny Sky Walker, Kyle Macy, etc. are as popular as almost any NBA talent in the league aside form the superstars such as MJ, Magic, Kobe, etc. etc. I think with a big run next year and with a good team, Patterson and Meeks will be set for life as far as being associated with not only the University but the entire state. If Meeks and Patterson stay and bring top 10success, they will become basketball gods in this state. Few guys have the want to do that but I believe Patterson and Meeks both do.

I hope your right. I'd love to have both of them back. :thumb:

If they stay, we are definitely a player next year.

I would have though PP was automatic to leave before the season started, but with the injuries (ankle last year, finger/ankle this year), I'm starting to think he'll be back.

I'm almost positive Meeks will be back. He would be making a big mistake (ala Kelenna) if he leaves this year.

I think the injuries could definately be a factor in his decision. Also, if I read correctly he is on pace to graduate after 3 years. I wonder if that will be a factor in his decision.

Vilarino is a true PG, but I'm not sure he'll be able to contribute much next season....

Isn't this the 8th grader he signed? I thought he verballed as an 8th grader will he already be here next year?

Unless we have a true point guard that is ready to play we won't factor into elite 8 or final four discussion. Very good nucleus, but I'll have to see someone capable of bringing the ball up the floor and getting the Cats into some offense.

Porter, Liggins and Galloway all struggle with pressure, and I'm not sure that you want to base your final four or top 10 hopes on a 3-star freshman point guard. It doesn't usually work like that. Hopefully atleast 2 of these players will be ready for the big-time next year.

Hopefully, Hood will be as good as advertised and be able to be the kind of compliment on the wing that would allow Jodie Meeks more uncontested looks.

Orton should be good, I just wonder if Patterson comes back if BCG will sit Stevenson in favor of a true frosh. I don't know if he will.

As for the bench. Either Orton or Stevenson should be the top reserve along with Harrelson and Pilgrim. That is the problem, they're all big men. No guards. Miller isn't bad but I don't know if he will ever turn into a big time scorer in college. Maybe will some added assertiveness he can.

If Meeks and Patterson come back UK on paper should be a good team, but the guards do have a lot of work to do in the offseason.
