I voted Liberterian this past election, but am not quite ready to abandon the Republican party just yet.

Case in point. If the Libertarian party starts to gain ground it will be w/ mostly Republicans. By the time that would happen there would be a 20 year run of Socialist...I mean Democratic Presidents and Congresses.

It will get fixed if the correct Republican if there ever is one is elected. While I liked Bush for a few reasons he was absolutely terrible w/ spending. Anything good he did, and there are some things, is terribly overshadowed by the deficit and the amount of spending. But a lot of that was while the Dems controlled Congress. Both parites are to blame and if staunch Republicans leave and go Libertarian that will give the Dems all the time they need to see to it that the US becomes fully Socialistic.

Really. All 2 out of 8 years. :idunno:

That is what the Democrats love to hear. The more people who are fairly aware of politics to heavily aware of politics that don't vote Republican that were once Republican the better off they are. So congrats.....more big government here we come...yes we can

This is exactly why I've left the party. As long as I'm registered R, the GOP thinks they have my vote and can do what they want. Too many R voters think that the GOP has all the answers. Well I for one, find them to be the lesser of two evils. I want better than that.

I agree that something needs to be done. I'm just hoping that there are current Republicans capable of doing it. I also think that they are the lesser of two evils, but if some Dems who don't work and think they are entitled to get benefits keep getting their guys in office where does that leave you?

So what? The only difference between Republicans and Democrats is assorted, vague, random tax cuts by the Republicans. They both spend our money like crazy, which in the end will screw us, no matter if it is spent on the war in Iraq or universal health care. (Also, it is worth noting here that universal health care is NOT a bad thing, something that conservatives tend to get strung up on. The bad thing is the enormous amount of money spent (and negative impacts of it on medicine). So the money will be mismanaged somehow.

Anyways, it took Jimmy Carter to bring us Reagan. If 20 years of what you think is socialism (which, I can safely assume, you don't know what socialism actually is) is what it takes to bring us true small government, then so be it.

You know what they say about assuming...

IMO, there is no such thing.

If I'm wrong then prove it. I'd be glad to ask for your forgiveness. Start a new thread and tell me what socialism is.

Do we really need to go there? These examples may not fit the definition exactly, but if the government controls the banks, mortgage companies, insurance companies, car manufacturers, and so on then it's close enough. Add to that the way they want to control health care and it just doesn't look good. It's also not how THIS country is supposed to be run. When 4 of the big 7 airlines filed bankruptcy did the government bail them out? Nope. Do people still fly? Yep. Would I be better off not paying my mortgage and letting the government get me a lower payment? Yep. It may not be socialism word for word. Call it whatever you like. I say it sucks.

1. It is not socialism word for word. I agree that it sucks as well.

2. The Republicans voted for the bailout, and it was passed under former President Bush, a Republican.
