I am glad this election is over...

Sorry to be weighing in on Obama's speech so late, but it was extraordinarily inspiring. I can certainly understand why so many are drawn to him.

As long as you discount the crap the Nixon campaign pulled to guarantee his re-election in 1972 ...

 

The sad thing is that he didnt need to do anything. I could have beaten poor McGovern.

Not happy about this in any way, shape, or form, but this is a historic moment. Congrats!

I am so happy and proud to be an American. A part of me feels bad for McCain and Obama showed so much class towards him during his speach. I really hope they can work together.

Alongside with what you've said, I hope Obama is sucessful, otherwise we're all failing as a country.

Bush was never given that chance from the Dems, why should Republicans give Obama one?

 

Because there is too much at stake not to. Times are very different than January of 2001.

He was going to win that election big no matter what, nothing he did affected the outcome. That's always been what was so stupid about the whole thing. The man and his people were off the wall paranoid.

Congrats to President elect Obama. He and the Democrats have a great opportunity to pull this country together and lead us forward. I truly hope and pray that they do not squander the opportunity the way the R's did so.

 

It would have been an absolutely stunning turn of events if McCain could have pulled off the win. Our country has been pretty much evenly divided between liberals and conservatives for some time, with the independents/moderates determining the Presidency. Because of 1. the normal desire for change in the White House after a period of time with one party holding the office, and 2. large dissatisfaction with Bush, Obama would have really had to mess up to lose this election. He did not. As a result of his campaign promises to be the centrist his past voting record did not indicate him to be, a lot of independents and moderates decided in this election to support him.

 

Because of his charisma and oratory skills, he has a great opportunity to inspire people (on both sides of the aisle) to put aside their partisan beliefs to move this country ahead. Hopefully his campaign of change will not be a change to far to the left. If he does, he will really alienate a lot of Americans and will only cause conservatives to become entrenched in their partisan beliefs.

 

Here's a toast to President elect Obama. May your intelligence and God's influence guide you to making wise and sound decisions for the betterment of our country without regard to any one party.

I'm really surprised at the vote totals I'm seeing. With all the new voters out there it appears that the total votes are going to be less that in 2004.

The economy is in such bad shape and Bush is disliked so much right now that our new president could sit on his hands for 4 years and look like one of the greatest presidents ever. He ran on change, only time will tell if he can pull it off. Congrats to our new president and all of his supporters.

I feel that America made a very bad choice and that will become evident over the next 4 years. I do believe he will only be a one term president. That being said, I hope I'm wrong on my first sentence for all our sake. Time will tell.

But he ran against McGovern because of some "rat - ++++++" by his subordinates with the Muskie campaign. Muskie would have been a much stronger candidate but he melted down and McGovern stepped to the front.

I wonder how Obama's security briefing is going to go today... It would be funny to hear military and security advisers try to explain things to a person who knows nothing about either subject.....
