Fulmer out at Tennessee....

Featured Replies

Older coaches that could recruit and WIN...

Butch Davis, N. Carolina

David Cutcliffe, Duke

Steve Spurrier, S. Carolina

Younger coaches that would bring energy to a program...

Mike Stoops, Arizona

Chris Peterson, Boise St.

Mike Leach, Tex. Tech

Brian Kelly, Cincy

Bronco Mendenhall, BYU

Imagine that...

Recruiting certainly isn't a problem in Tennessee though. The Vols consistently brought in top notch classes under Fulmer. They just underachieved.

I heard Coach Petrino has always liked Knoxville.:lol::lol::lol:

I was just saying that Spurrier, Cutcliffe, and Davis have done their fair share of recruiting in the Southeast for many years ---- might be tougher for someone brought in from the midwest or far west to be familiar for the '09 season.

The "Ole Ball Coach" is probably too old to think about moving again, but he would be at worst (7-2) at UT with the talent they have on their roster. He's a touchdown away in three games from having the Gamecocks (9-0) and probably ranked 1st in the country. If he had a decent QB they'd be undefeated.

I wouldn't put Cuttcliffe on the list I would say he is to loyal to friends to come in and replace Fulmer after he was forced out. Remember it was Cutcliffe's loyalty to his assistants that cost him the Ole Miss job after they had a loosing season.

Sadly, UT will still find a way to knock off UK. Even with a lame duck coach. Heck, they'll probably try that much harder to send him out a winner.

That was my first thought when I read the thread title. They'll play their hearts out in that last game - especially if they are 5-6 and playing for a bowl game.

Brian Kelly should be on the radar of a lot of programs.
I agree. Very good coach.

I was thinking the same thing.

Talent wise UT is still a mile ahead of UK this year maybe even two miles.

I would love to see Boise State's coach perform in a BCS program. I have always wondered if he could pull off the same job that Urban Meyer did.
He probably could, personally being a UK fan don't want to see him or Grobe at UT. :D

:laugh: I believe that I heard he was seen in the Knoxville area around midnight several nights in the last few weeks sneaking in and out of the AD's office. (and people from both Arkansas and UT were denying it saying..."no way would he leave") :sssh::lol:

RIDICULOUS!! The man is 150-51 as a head coach. The what have you done for me lately crowd wins again. Plus big boosters putting up money for a buy-out that will be huge.

Plus he won his division last season. But sometimes it's not just about your W-L record, it's the intangibles. Kinda like Tubby. I was content for him to stay, but after seeing the fire in the program with Billy G, I'm very glad he's gone.

But only 27-20 since the start of the 2005 season. With the resources that UT has at their disposal that is not acceptable--especially given his players penchant for illegal activities in recent years.

I thought he went to Colorado.

That was the old coach, Dan Hawkins. He left Boise three years ago for Colorado. RP is talking about Chris Peterson who is completing his third year at Boise. He was the coach when they beat Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl a couple years ago.

As for Peterson, he doesn't seem like a southern guy. I think you'll more than likely see him make the jump from Boise to the Pac-10 or maybe Big XII. Perhaps Washington?

Is Leach really any younger than Spurrier or Davis?

I've got a best friend from KY that is on the staff there.

Lulu and Junior are unavailablbe for comment on the next coach.:thumb:

Spurrier? Hmm!

I would love to see Boise State's coach perform in a BCS program.

I know a school that should have gone after him...

One name that I have not seen that could be a hot commodity in the college rank even though he did not get much of a chance in the pro's is Lane Kiffin...I know his name was rumored after he got fired from the Raiders to possibly be a candidate in Knoxville. Another name I would not be surprised to hear pop up is Tommy Bowden...just for name recognition only.
